FIX floaty and sluggish mouse feeling

Post by dermodemon » 30 Mar 2026, 06:16

First off all, I want to warn you that this fix completely disables G-SYNC and the standard NVIDIA Control Panel. Instead, we’ll be using Nvidia Profile Inspector. Some monitors come with broken G-SYNC (like mine), which can cause that “floaty mouse” feeling. This fix is reproducible—I’ve tested it on myself multiple times on different PC's with the same monitor.
May not help people with good gsync quality monitors or people with EMI issues

1. Completely turn off Adaptive Sync (or any equivalent) on your monitor.
2. Fully uninstall the NVIDIA driver using DDU in Safe Mode.
3. Download NVCleanstall_1.19.0 and an NVIDIA driver (preferably the Studio version).
4. Run NVCleanstall, point it to the driver you downloaded, click Next, and leave only “Display Driver (required)” checked. Click Next again. Then select the same options as in my screenshot, proceed, and install. After installation, reboot your PC. (you can uncheck DLSS indicator if you want it, it's not important part)

5. Run CRU and delete all monitors from the list.
6. Go to Device Manager and uninstall all monitors.
7. Open the registry and go to:

Code: Select all

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
Delete all monitor-related entries from the following folders: Configuration, Connectivity, ScaleFactors, MonitorDataStore. Then reboot.
8. Once back in Windows, press Win+P and choose to display only on the main monitor. Set your desired maximum refresh rate.
9. Open CRU again, select your main monitor, and uncheck all items under “Established Resolutions.” Remove everything under “Standard Resolutions.” Then go to “Extension Blocks” and delete the “Freesync range” block from Data Blocks. Save, apply, and reboot.
10. Download Nvidia Profile Inspector.
11. Run it and configure it as shown in my screenshot. Basically most important is to disable gsync, vsync and set maximum pre-rendered frames to 1. You can set your desired FPS (and also create a separate profile for a specific game if you need extra settings). Apply the changes and reboot.

P.S. Optionally (not required), you can disable MSI mode for the USB controller your mouse is using via MSI_util_v3.exe or GoInterruptPolicy.exe. You can also set that USB controller to highest priority and assign a dedicated CPU core for interrupts.

At the end of all these steps, CRU should show only the monitors that are currently connected to your PC—and each one should appear only once. If you see duplicates, it means something went wrong. Try again: remove them, clean the registry, delete them from Device Manager, and then set up CRU again.

Give it a try, test it out, and please let me know if this fix helped you 👍

You can delete the GraphicsDrivers keys you listed, windows will regenerate them on reboot. You can also use the control panel by adding it to C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps, essentially manually installing without the Microslop store.
Link:https://github.com/Ahebah/NVIDIA-CP/blo ... zipped.zip

Once the .zip is downloaded, drop the folder inside C:\ProgramFiles\WindowsApps, you can also rename the folder to whatever you wish it will still work. Open the folder and make a taskbar shortcut of nvcplui.exe.

You just need to install the display container (the part that breaks CPL if not installed via cleanstall), go to services.msc, type NV to find it faster, Properties, set Startup type of NVIDIA Display Container LS to manual and start it, the control panel will now open without issue and you can configure everything you need in it and after you're finished, go back to services.msc, find NVIDIA Display Container LS and stop it.

Or you can set the NVIDIA Display Container LS to automatic, so you don't have to start and stop the container every time you want to use the control panel, however you may have some performance loss in games with the service always running.

Followed all the steps without positive impact. also noticed that my input lag gets worse on some areas of the map, in all games with high fps 240 ~ 300. lowering video settings to lowest possible also does not have any positive effect

What is your monitor/refresh rate? Can you share your nvidia profile inspector screenshot + cru screenshot with all of your monitors?

Just a word of caution for people who aren't aware. If you choose one of the settings that changes the drivers signature. "Disable Driver Telemetry" & "Apply NVENC Video encoding". Games with anti-cheat will detect this and permaban you.

And i think driver telemetry includes FPS counters, so it can break FPS limiters.

:D :D :D never had any issues with "disable driver telemetry". And anticheat will never PERMABAN you for this :D :D :D
P.S.
"Disabling NVIDIA driver telemetry (e.g., via NVCleanstall) can trigger Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) to block games, as the modified drivers may be flagged as untrusted. To avoid issues, ensure you select the "Allow Usage with Easy Anti-Cheat" option in specialized debloating tools or use standard NVIDIA installation with service disabling." (c) TechPowerUp

Once critical parts of a driver are repackaged, the signature changes. If you install the driver and get a signature warning when installing. Best not install it. Getting a ban means losing money on a game a person paid for. That's careless advice to give. "Easy Anti-Cheat" is only "one" anti cheat provider. FYI

As i said above you will never get a ban for this. Well if you are so paranoid you can avoid this step

I tried every software/bios tweaks from every website imaginable, from xmp ram timings to disabling HPET, to editing registry for mouse responsiveness, I also got a static public IP and set NAT to Full Cone from CGNAT. While all these slightly change input, the core issue of floaty aim that delays before coming to a complete stop + enemy ferrari peeking in every comp game eg. Valorant and CS2. Hell, even trying to draw circles on the desktop was impossible as it would be so delayed it would draw ovals after 3-4 circles.

This issue is so hard to diagnose since there are so many PC components combinations from motherboard to CPU to GPU to RAM to PSU. Even down to cases with different screws and such.

Now my fix to my own PC configuration was when my fans rgb started to act strange, some just stopped working and went dark. I was still trying to find a fix for input lag, mouse delay in games during this time and put buying new case fans to later priority. So what I did was I unplugged the ARGB 5v cables (In my case, I had 2 cables) from the motherboard. I got no more rgb but low and behold, floaty mouse, laggy delayed windows and inputs all gone. With modern pc's everyone has gone crazy with lights and rgb fans and it seems like with my particular pc, Z490 board has an issue with the 2 ARGB 5v cables. Well these cables are notoriously bad, comes loose easily and doesn't sit snug.

TLDR, My fix to input lag and delay was to unplug all my ARGB 5v cables from my motherboard.
