xl2540k stretched res blurriness / display scaling

Post by azot3 » 05 May 2026, 15:37

Hi,

I have recently purchased the xl2540k and quite like it because it does it's job pretty well for fps games.
The thing is i recently went back to cs and went for stretched res as per usual and noticed a problem.
When playing stretched, the display uses GPU scaling and it's like if on top of the lowered res a bit of a blur was added, it's foggier than what i used to see when playing csgo on older monitors which should make no sense since the display is more recent.

So i digged a bit into this online because i assumed i could fix it by switching to display scaling and found some stuff:

1- apparently the k models and recent zowie monitors have shit display scaling so it won't help:

2-i looked up my monitor and saw that "1280x1024" might work since it's a base preset:

3-i tried following what "Slander" said in this post:

So i deleted 1280x1024 with "sre.exe", switched to display scaling in nvidia control panel, launched cs2, used 1280x1024 and switched to Full display mode in my monitor OSD. Alt-tabs would now take longer and the osd would show 1280x1024 so i think it was display scaling, thing is it was still shit like the reddit post mentionned in #1 said.
Now, did i do #3 wrong and have to use CRU as well or is it doomed anyway like #1 says because zowie fucked up the display scaling which used to be the go to for sharper stretched res?

Off topic: How do you guys choose which monitor to buy nowadays? I had a xl2411p for a long time which had terrible ghosting on AMA high or extreme but very good response time and when i upgraded to 240hz i cheaped out and bought the odyssey g4 which turned out to having horrible response times even with AMA at high or ultra and horrible ghosting as well!
So i went back to zowie even tho the prices are way higher and am really bummed out for running into yet another issue, albeit it being smaller, it's still really annoying since it shouldn't be a thing at all.

Like the old xl2546 and xl2540, the k models only have 1920x1080 and 1280x1024 display scaling out of the box. I’ve always used gpu on those just like all the cs pros did back in the day, ye you can do cru and add a resolution, tbh I like the smoothness of the 1280x1024 scaling for instance.

I have no issue with gpu scaling even 1152x864 looks crisp.

I’m running the monitor right now with blurbusters tool so with “DyAc”

So basically if I understand you correctly I don’t have the issue you have with the same model?
