Responsiveness and smoothness of the system changes. Need help!

Post by AMIDY » 09 May 2026, 18:10

Hi everyone, maybe someone has encountered the same problem as me. I've tried countless things, and nothing works.

After installing Windows, everything works perfectly. It doesn't matter which version of Windows I install (10 or 11, the official one from the Microsoft website, Atlas OS, or any custom build). Everything is very responsive and smooth. The mouse feels very light and moves smoothly. Browsers are very smooth and pleasant to use. Games are also responsive and smooth; the computer works seamlessly.

Problem: After a certain amount of time (1-2 hours, half a day, or after rebooting or shutting down the PC), all the smoothness and responsiveness disappears at a completely random moment and doesn't return, no matter what I do. The mouse feels three times heavier, weighing half a kilogram. The browser's image display becomes out of sync when I simply scroll the page (for example, when everything is perfect, I can read YouTube video titles or forum thread titles when scrolling). But when the PC crashes, even if I'm concentrating on the video or thread titles, I have trouble reading them. The smoothness also disappears on the desktop, and the cursor is no longer as smooth and noticeably less responsive. Games also get worse.

For example, in Dota 2, when everything is running perfectly, I don't even notice the FPS drop from an average of 180-200 to, say, 120-130 (I have a 144Hz monitor). And even when the FPS drops to 80-90 in 5v5 fights, everything is completely playable. But when the PC's smoothness breaks down, even when the FPS is 180-200 and I'm at the edge of the map, there's no smoothness. This applies to all games to varying degrees (online games are more susceptible to this effect). Even if I just go to practice in Dota 2 or PUBG, where the internet connection plays a minimal role, the smoothness I had with a clean Windows installation is no longer there. I also can't aim properly at opponents, and it's even noticeably more difficult to just finish off creeps, as the mouse simply feels different and noticeably worse.

PC:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon RX 6600
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus
RAM: 32GB Patriot Viper Steel 3600 CL18
Storage: Patriot P320 NVMe SSD (main drive, Windows version), plus two regular SATA SSDs.
Power Supply: Chieftec 650w

I've tried all the basic recommendations, tried a bunch of things with the BIOS (resetting it to default and vice versa, checking various settings), tested the RAM on both the default 2666 and the HMP 3600, and manually tightened the secondary timings, both in the context of the CPU and on the standard PBO, and turned it off, and lowered the voltage, and fixed the frequency to 4.65 without the PBO.

I've tried different BIOS versions, different Windows settings, different graphics card drivers (from 23.11.1 to the latest 26.5.1, I've tried over 10 versions), and different chipset drivers. I've also tried not installing any chipset drivers at all. I've also tried installing the drivers offered by Windows Update (I usually disable automatic driver updates). I've tried installing the default graphics card driver, Driver Only, and using Slimmer to disable all video driver services and components.

I tried different monitor cables: hdmi, dp.

I noticed something suspicious: if I go to Device Manager and look for my video adapter, the details will say this: Device PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_73FF&SUBSYS_52171849&REV_C7\6&45e003c&0&00000019 had a problem starting.

Driver Name: oem6.inf
Class GUID: {4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Service: amduw23g-200433-80200602

Upper Filters:
Problem: 0x0
Problem Status: 0xC00000E5

It also says "the device is configured," and then "the device is not running." This problem occurs 100% of the time when I install a new Windows version and graphics card drivers. Two other devices in Task Manager also have the same error (AMD PCI Express Downstream Switch Port and AMD PCI Express Upstream Switch Port). However, if I remove these three devices (without uninstalling the driver), the monitor flashes once, then flashes again after 10 seconds, the devices appear, and the error is gone, saying "the device is running." However, this doesn't resolve the issue with smoothness and responsiveness; it still appears at some point, just as it would without removing the devices.

Changing the MPO settings, ULPS, overclocking the video card or using stock settings, turning ReBar on and off—nothing helps. I disabled hardware acceleration in all applications (and the problem persisted even without installing or running a browser or any application that uses hardware acceleration). I tried win+shift+ctrl+b, rebooted DWM.

I'd also like to point out that I always turn off "Mouse Pointer Precision," keep my monitor and resolution at 144Hz, and keep my mouse DPI at 1200Hz, with its refresh rate at 1000Hz (I tried changing the DPI and polling rate, but nothing helped). I also disabled Windows transparency and all animations.

I installed Windows on both the main M2 and various SATA SSDs. I connected the M2 to different slots on the motherboard, and I also connected the graphics card to different slots. I tried gen 1, gen 2, gen 3, and gen 4 in the BIOS for different devices.

In short, I tried a multitude of things, tried every piece of advice and recommendation I could find, and reviewed numerous threads on this forum and Reddit before creating my own. So far, nothing has helped me.

It's still the same: I install a clean Windows installation, the PC works perfectly for a certain amount of time, and then everything breaks. I don't know what triggers this smoothness, or how to prevent it.

I've ruled out the electrical issue, as reinstalling the operating system always helps. I've also tried my PC in another house.

I probably didn’t indicate 100% of the actions and methods I tried to solve this problem, because I tried an incredible amount of things.

P.S.: Sorry for my poor English, but I hope I've conveyed the essence of the problem and my attempts to solve it.

It's very difficult to continue using the PC in this poor, broken state when you understand and feel how everything can work perfectly (from the responsiveness of the mouse on the desktop to the smoothness of games).

Any help, advice, recommendations, and questions are welcome!

Disable all the hardware and software that you can: usb ports you don't absolutely need, windows services you don't absolutely need, windows scheduled tasks you don't absolutely need. Make a system restore point first and verify it was successful in event viewer (sometimes it silently fails). Disable Cortana and AI. Disable Sysmain service. The list is too long on a fresh windows install. Don't give up, it could take a week if this is your first time.

Power/electricity. Most people don’t want to admit it.

I have similar issues here.. you can try a double conversion UPS to improve the situation, if it doesn't work, you can always return it.

here is a Russlan talking about it.(Translated)
