Does OLED need to warm up?

High Hz on OLED produce excellent strobeless motion blur reduction with fast GtG pixel response. It is easier to tell apart 60Hz vs 120Hz vs 240Hz on OLED than LCD, and more visible to mainstream. Includes WOLED and QD-OLED displays.

Is OLED like led that it needs to warm up to have fast responese times ?

No, both OLEDs and direct-view LED displays don't need a warmup time. The pixel response is fast regardless of cool or warm.

It's LCD (even if LED backlit) that more noticeably needs the warmup for fastest GtG. Cold LCD panels in the winter can noticeably ghost more.

Yes for black crush. my Dell aw2725q 4k 240hz needs 30-40 minutes for lagom 6-7/255 visible to change to 1/255 visible on console mode gamma 2.2, so the black detail takes time, this is model dependent most likely engineering wise.

Yes, thank you for the observation - this revises my 2024 post.

More research will be needed on OLED warmup considerations.

Being that said, it hasn't noticeably affected OLED GtG (away the black crush region) with low-cost measuring equipment technologies.

It is interesting to know about a black crush warm-up effect on very specific OLED panels, even though I haven't seen it universally occur on all OLED panels.

Software compensation theoretically: You could have two display calibration profiles, where you use a gamma curve adjustment to lift above black crush for cold OLED. One for cold OLED, and another for warm OLED. Obviously, hacky, and may hit bitdepth granularity problems (e.g. RGB (1,1,1) and RGB (2,2,2) and RGB(3,3,3) becoming identical) since panels will often have low bit depth at the low end. Even 10bpc might still granularize at the scaler/TCON level after linearization, so use as much bits as you can afford (e.g. HDR float16 framebuffers + 10/12bpc video signal)

I suppose it's the thin film transistor (TFT) behaviors during low gate voltages of darks changing with thermals. Gate voltages during darks can be really low, and conductance of microwires in panels can vary with temperature (slightly more resistive vs slightly more conductive). It's possible micro-ohms are making the difference, theoretically. Some display engineer ought to verify. Maybe manufacturers need to add thermosistors in the panel layer, and update firmware to have automatic digital gamma curve calibration during cold moments. Theoretical OSD menu item: "Gamma Crush Warmup Compensation [ON/OFF]". Needs to be as close to the panel as possible, rather than the display motherboard.
