So where do I even start?

Everything about displays and monitors. 120Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz, 4K, 1440p, input lag, display shopping, monitor purchase decisions, compare, versus, debate, and more. Questions? Just ask!

So where do I even start?

Post by overlookdeserve » 09 Sep 2026, 14:35

I'm trying to figure out what monitor to get, but it's just so much info..

In the past you could just look at the list of monitors on the website and kinda go from there..

But now what should I do? Ask on here and get a handful of replies all saying different things?

Like where should I look to see what people who actually know what they're talking about are currently recommending?

What do you want to upgrade or improve?

Are you happy with your current monitor? do you need a new monitor? if so, why?

Treat every display purchase as a seesaw, where you either push the spatial information (pixel density aka display resolution) or temporal information (refresh rate if s&h path or effective motion clarity if impulsed path), depending on your use-case & preference.
You should always push both sides as much as possible within your constraints (price budget & available technology in your region)

Ask yourself the following questions:
- What options does my region have?
- What's my budget?
- What's my general use-case for the display?
- If I play games, what's my general performance (frame rate) in the games I play?

In general, as of 2026, I'd rank them like this:
Note: Just because I've ranked it as "best", doesn't mean it's objectively good. it's just best in category & what we've got as consumers IMO.
Best pixel density & refresh rate combination in EU/NA: TCL 25P2A Pro (esports oriented)
Best high refresh rate experience: DP80 500Hz QD-OLEDs such as GB FO27Q5P & rest (RGB stripe 400Hz coming in March/April 2027, which are the first good OLEDs IMO)
Best high density backlight strobing: KTC M27P6 & upcoming 32" 5K Pulsar models (only in ULMB2 @ 120Hz... hopefully...). Perhaps the Titan Army P276MX Ultra as well, but I don't expect this to hit EU/NA market.

I personally don't find 27" 4K 240/360 Hz OLED to be an appealing target for the vast majority of users due to how taxing the experience is on the GPU.
If one were to be mostly using the desktop & play well-optimized games (of which there are ~400 / 12k sample size), then the upcoming 27" 4K 360Hz is the absolute pinnacle of technology we have available.
It's spatial & temporal information king.
