Same thing for me, i had a laptop asus vivobook pro 17 in 2020 60hz monitor, i was really really good at Minecrafat pvp on the 16.2 version, playing everyday, destroying everyone, and suddenly, i could not even fight properly, it felt different, heavy mouse feeling (i had to change my sensibility from 36% to 58%), i could not win ez 50/50 situations. Even today with my setup, 165hz monitor 500 fps, good wifi, it's not even close what i remember. I changed 3 times my setup, my mouse, keyboard, my wifi... Nothing changed, i had the choice to chose between 60hz with incredible responsiveness vs 360hz with this lag, i swear i would go back in time to get my old computer and play like before.

I would like to know what changed from the moment you did not have this issue the day after having this lag ? Because for me, i did absolutely nothing. This is why i thought it was something related to my peripherals or wifi, something i could not control...
My decade plus old modem got struck by lightning, after the replacement arrived from an ISP technician every PC I tried had this lag, still like this to this day.

I played at my friends place where he had a computer where that problem didn't come yet, as soon as he had a new outlet installed that same lag I had home came to him as well.

Really difficult to find the root cause, these happenings could just be coincidental and would've happened regardless of a fried modem or a new outlet.

I could perhaps get a really old computer with no error correction support that crashes when its fed shit electricity relatively quickly with default settings, to further diagnose this issue.

Look at this random benchmarker video I found, his Valorant runs flawlessly even if his fps is 100-200 lower than my PC. His Ping when he tabs is 40ms. I have only ever seen this game being this responsive when watching big streamers or pros in lan. The way his bullets register, the recoil resetting very quick, crisp death animations upon kill shots, most obvious is the enemies' super smooth movement response where you can clearly see they stop and react. The guy's movement and aim seems to be about gold-plat I guess and this looks to be in Singapore SEA server judging from the voice comms.

It's what I always say: players with the game running perfectly can have low FPS, any ping, but still hit their shots. I'm tired of seeing CS2 streams from high-elo players, even unknown players, with 150/200 FPS. The fluidity of their game is incredible, even compared to ours with over 500 FPS/360 Hz. It's inexplicable.

I've mentioned here a few times that my highest level (3500 elo back in the CS:GO days) was an improvement when I played on a 120Hz gaming laptop. Today, with my high-end PC, my level isn't even close to what it was before, and it's not a matter of mechanics. I feel my mechanics are still there, but what's transmitted on the screen—the responsiveness of strafe, micro-corrections of aim—simply doesn't respond as it should, plus any opponent becomes a god against you in duels where you have a clear advantage.

Check out Zywoo in some of the rare times he streamed CS:GO many years ago.

The FPS is bad at times, dropping below 150, and yes, Zywoo is one of the best players in history, but even with adverse conditions, this guy deletes opponents like it's nothing in the highest ranks of Faceit; the guys literally look like bots entering his crosshairs.

Yeah its baffling, I got to 2800 elo in CS2 with this condition and Immortal 2 in Valorant. All what you said above is true, in fact we are miles better mechanics-wise than we were ever before. However, this desync curse thing is destroying me mentally man, fighting against the game constantly whilst also against opponents or sometimes bad teammates is just draining and makes you feel like shit when you lose almost every single duel, if you try to take 50/50's, it becomes more like 10/90 and that you must have perfect timing/positioning to score a kill or with abilities. This is just sad and I am going to take a break to play singleplayer-story games to heal. I will still lurk around and till then, goodluck and hope we found the solution soon.
