XL2411Z version 3 firmware

Post by donel » 03 Jan 2015, 13:44

hi all , :D

just got my new monitor but having problem getting it looking nice.

it looks to white and colours pretty poor.

ive tried this icc (http://www.digitalversus.com/lcd-monito ... ap437.html)

standard mode,brightness 40,contrast 50,gamma 4,low blue light 0,black equalizer 0 , color temp user mode 100,95,90

should i be burning this monitor in ? does the 144hz/120/hz make any difference to picture quality ? what is best for image quality ?

HDMI HPD = ON
DVI = OFF should this be on ?
logo off
internet cafe off (what is this for ?)
strobe duty 020 (what does this do ? )
strobe phase 100 (whats it for ? )
single strobe 20 (whats it for ? )

firm version V003-20140424

overall the image is a little whiteish just like browsing the net and in games there is a a whiteish tinge to things. i make many gaming videos so this needs to be right :( .

am i supposed to do a burn in on the monitor ? i tried reading the instructions but there was nothing much on optimal settings.

any idiots fool proof guide for me to get it running correctly would be great thanks ! i use a nvidia 970 gtx.im connected by the default lead in the box .

thanks for any help :D

Set strobe phase to 0.

Strobe phase 100, without a vertical total tweak, was designed to make the monitor "top" area of the screen as close to lightboost quality as possible, although completely messing up the bottom, while also giving 'room' to keep the top of the screen looking nice as you increase the strobe duty. (increasing the persistence (strobe duty)/lowering the amount of motion blur reduction/making the screen brighter) has a small side effect of lowering the position of the crosstalk settling errors by a small amount, while changing strobe phase changes the position of the crosstalk by a larger amount. While the defaults, strobe phase 100 and strobe duty 020, approximate lightboost 120hz @ 100% (good looking top), the bottom will be a crosstalk mess, which you don't get in lightboost mode, since lightboost uses accelerated scanout.

Because of this, it's usually best to set strobe phase at 0, and then balance the crosstalk errors between the bottom and top.

The vertical total tweaks you have heard about, are to help accelerate the scanout of benq blur reduction, to help improve the crosstalk boundaries more, to make it more like lightboost...e.g., pushing the bottom strobe crosstalk pulse errors (that very thick double image/inverted effect) completely off the bottom of the screen, and a VT 1500 setting is recommended for good results.
But this absolutely REQUIRES setting the strobe phase to 0, as going past 049 (120hz) or 059 (100hz) will turn off the backlight.

Without a VT tweak, you'll have more crosstalk either at the top or bottom of the screen, instead of having it pushed mostly off.

With a VT 1500 tweak or a VT 1350 tweak, I find strobe phase 000, and strobe duty 006 @ 100hz and 120hz to give a nice not too bright and not too dark image, while keeping the bottom of the screen decent (some regular ghosting that is worst at the very bottom) and some crosstalk settling errors only at the very top. Strobe duty 003 pushes it completely off the top of the screen, but 0.5ms persistence may be too dark for some people.

Also AFAIK you can NOT use black equalizer in standard mode.
Black equalizer can not be used in any mode where gamma adjustment is available, and vice versa, because EQ actually adjusts the gamma at certain points in the 0-20 range between gamma 1-5, along with other color and balance settings (that's why in any mode where you can use black equalizer, the only color setting is "User", afaik.

thanks for your time ;)

how do i see if the burn in test is on ? how do i access it ?

i can access the normal blue menu on top left which gives firmware version and such but cant seem to find the name or menu or the place for burn menu.

which buttons is it you press ?

http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1691

it doesnt state which button it is exactly ( Power on while still holding down menu and enter. if you held it for 5 seconds before pressing the power button, you can release them all right away (normal service menu is menu for 5 seconds and power)

which buttons are they ? 2 & ?

You want the factory menu?

that's holding down enter and menu (button 3 and 4) but I don't know if the button placement are different on 2411Z. They're vertical (on the right side bezel) on 2420z and 2720z, right?

But it's hold down MENU and Enter (button 3 and 4) for 5 seconds, with power button off. Press power while still holding down both button sand then release.

Then press button 5 to enter the factory menu.
Burn in test mode is enabled by setting burn in to On (if this is set on, powering off and on the monitor will bring up this menu again with button 5), then to get the burn-in test pattern, switch the input to HDMI (or even power off and do it).

Regular service menu, which you already know about, is just button #4 (menu) for 5 seconds while powered off then power+menu then release.

Is "menu" the 4th button?
Menu is the button that corresponds to "menu" icon (it seems the xl2411z has different icons than the 2420z's vertical touch sensitive buttons) when you activate the OSD, but not exit.
Try button 4+5, button 3+5, button 3+2, any combination of menu+another button.

You can enter the regular service menu by holding down button 4 (or menu) for 5 seconds then powering on and releasing both buttons, right? (both service mode unlocking and factory mode unlocking disable the "Eye care" logo (or in the case of people trying to use FPS or RTS mode, "Eye assault"...

2nd button from the left with power on, then release that button. Wait until the OSD disappears (the DVI message or whatever) and press the 4th button from left, this will give you service menu.
