Any signs of 4k+ 16:10 Monitors coming?
Any signs of 4k+ 16:10 Monitors coming?
So a friend and I are looking for new monitors.
So in reading here, I just have not seen any sign of what he wants being announced. He's sitting on his pennies so he can buy this when it's available.
His list of what he expects to find:
* 16:10 (Only other ratio would be a 4:3, but I REALLY don't think that's happening any time soon.);
* 4k (3840x2400) or better;
* Sub 30" (IE 22"/24"/28")
So any sign of this rare beast showing up in the wild within the next year?
(Me - I'm just debating between a few.)

Re: Any signs of 4k+ 16:10 Monitors coming?
haven't seen a sub 30" 16:10 4K+ screen, there seems enough demand for it, I don't understand why they aren't there, maybe some production issue?
Re: Any signs of 4k+ 16:10 Monitors coming?
I hope not. Just because im getting really sick of these 16:10 nostalgians QQing in EVERY forum.
what? 3840x2160 isnt enough for you? lets say its @ 30"? i hear there is 5120x2880 coming... or is that a problem for you too?
Do you understand why you deserve to suffer?

It's not about nostalgia. It's a better for a number of things. Also as a person with a limited width in my studio for a monitor I understand the want.
Re: Any signs of 4k+ 16:10 Monitors coming?
What about using DSR / VSR on a lower resolution 16:10? Would that work for you?

It's because 16:10/4:3 resolutions are typically just taller-with-equal-width versions of 16:9 instead of 16:9 being wider versions of 16:10/4:3.Edmond wrote:I hope not. Just because im getting really sick of these 16:10 nostalgians QQing in EVERY forum.

(See: 1920x1200/1920x1440 vs 1920x1080 and 2560x1600 vs 2560x1440 and the even shorter 2560x1080)
16:9 TVs are great because they match a lot of video and gaming content designed for them, but they are a step down for a lot of content creation and text work.

I never understood the fascination with 16:10 either.
I'd be curious to read an actual link of things you can do at that aspect ratio that you cannot at 16:9

so why don't they exist, 16:9 is the standard? low demand? the way to make it is just same as any other screen
Re: Any signs of 4k+ 16:10 Monitors coming?
I appreciate the replies.
For a couple of opinions and I hope maybe an answer or three.
JTS888 - Thank you, I think that's a VERY important thing that most people forget. Yes we game, but frankly we ALSO do a lot of other stuff on computers. (Losing 10+% of the screen real-estate when you drop down to a 16:9 can be a BIG impact. )
Carreraf1 - Yup, the difference especially when you have them side by side is QUITE noticeable.
My opinion as to why there isn't many of these available at this time: Past 10 or so years, I have watched a BIG push for 'video' and 'movies' in general. As computers have also been a video player source, manufactures have pushed to make monitors in 'video' size so people can watch their movies/shows in all it's glory without border lines on their computer. As the native video size monitors have been bought and become more common, video games developed a bigger focus for these sizes and pushed this standard also. With many people 'declaring' that as movies are at a max of 1080p - we don't need any higher resolution, monitors sizing has stagnated for quite some time. It's only been with the release of 4k TVs have we seen any improvement in the monitor resolution arena lately.
Edmond - Just because you accept and settle for a 16:9, does that mean that I have to? The technology is and has been available for a LONG while; There ARE people who have the money and the desire for these, so why can't they continue to attempt to seek out and buy what they want? (And as a side note - When I commented to my friend about the 5120x2880 - Where's my 330+ppi monitors in a size that "I" want.)

I would tell you to turn a 4k monitor in portrait and you will get so much vertical space that your super ultrawide 16:10 will look like a joke.yip3 wrote: Edmond - Just because you accept and settle for a 16:9, does that mean that I have to? But you might take that the wrong way.
So instead ill just link you the perfect monitor you have been craving for! Its here! and its IPS!... costs more, but you said thats not a problem.

You have NO reason to complain now. There you go! a perfect square.
And ill be the poor unfortunate scrub that will settle for 3440x1440 144hz gsync monitor later this year... with all that LOST height from a portrait turned 4k monitor. Im sure gaming will be horrible on that. And working on 2 or 3 documents open side by side? Atrocious, there is NO-ONE who works on more than one document at a time.
