Benq xl2411z CS GO on 1280*960

Post by Prozac » 01 Feb 2015, 08:59

Hello,

thanks for the great forum and espacially the user Falkentyne. Really helped me a lot.
I used to play CS on a crt monitor and want to play CS GO on 1280*960 now because i want more frames (not good hardware) and
Im used to 4:3.
I use Windows 8.1 and latest nvidia driver. I can change resolution in cs go to 1280*960 and use gpu stretched in nvidia driver.
But I read gpu scaling gives input lag and on OSD it says that its still 1920*1080.
So my question is if there is another possibility (without gpu scaling).
I found this:
"You can add 1280x960 as a custom resolution in CRU, and then set the OSD to 1:1, which should disable all scaling and avoid gpu scaling, but you'll have black bars."
Can I have 1920*1080 on desktop and only in CS GO 1280*960 not scaled so that I do not need to change the resolution all the time on driver. Do I need CRU or can I also add the custom resolution on nvidia driver? And how should this look like? I guess with 120 hz right? And does the benq support this?

Yes, you just add 1280x960 as a 'standard' resolution in ToastyX's CRU and enter the refresh rate there. You don't even need to add it as a detailed resolution, just a standard one. I believe you can also do this through the Nvidia control panel but I don't know how. I use CRU.

Then make sure in Nvidia control panel you have it set to "Display-no scaling" (I think?) or if there is a checkbox for "GPU scaling", uncheck it. I don't know what's in the Nvidia CP. For AMD, just unchecking "Enable GPU scaling" will force display scaling for directx 9 custom EDID resolutions, and GPU scaling for DX10+ (all DX10 and DX11 games use GPU scaling, only DX9 games (and the windows desktop itself) can use display scaling.

Wow thanks for the fast answer. But I have a problem in the nvidia driver. There is ONLY gpu scaling, no display scaling.
I use benq in fps1 mode. I tried every picture mode, but it never gives me display scaling on nvidia driver...

There should be "display-no scaling" in the driver. I saw a screenshot of that in the gsync area on these forums before.
I do know that there were some versions of the driver which were missing that for awhile.

I really do not have the option. I made a screenshot of it.
So is there another possibility? It is the newest nvidia driver, im on win 8.1.

edit:
On this thread there is the same problem, but no solution :(

Have you tried 1920x1440 with GPU scaling set to "aspect"? ("Seitenverhältnis.") That should give you native 1080p 4:3 with no scaling and no input lag.

You can add that mode in the nvidia panel.

Sorry for late answer!

@RealNC
I want to avoid GPU Scaling because I read everywhere that it causes inputlag.

I set in NVidia driver "no scaling". And scale with "GPU" because I have no display scaling there (seems a problem with windows 8.1).
With that I have no chance to run another resolution than 1920*1080. Even when I change desktop resolution to 1280*960 or any other it always says in monitor OSD (System -> Information) Current Resolution: 1920*1080. I created the custom resolution in CRU for 1280*960 with 120 hz, that also does not work.
I always have the 1920*1080 with black bars. But I want to have full screen with the lower resolution.
I just want to run the "real" lower resolution and NOT 1920*1080 scaled down....Anyone know how to achieve this??

On AMD, you simply have to create a custom 1280x960 or 1440x1080 <--(THIS one is better) resolution in custom resolution utility (detailed res for 1440x1080 as it is not a standard resolution).

For 1280x960 you can just select a dropdown 1280x960 in standard resolutions in CRU, for the refresh rate you want.
This does NOT work in directX 10 games. ALL DX10/11 non desktop resolutions are GPU SCALED always.
