i was testing xg258q and aw2518hf both gsync/scanline sync and this is my thoughts
xg258q/gsync/od=3 236 fps overwatch smooth/little stutter
xg258q/freesync/od3= 236 fps overwatch smooth
xg258q/scanline/od=3 239 fps overwatch much smoother
since i use CRU on aw2518hf and not xg258q i cant test it cause maybe it will ruin the xg258q
now aw2518hf
aw2518hf/gsync/fast 236 fps overwatch extreme smoother
aw2518hf/freesync/fast 236 fps overwatch amazing smoother

i don't care if its higher input lag then xg258q the feeling of this overdrive monitor is amazing

I don´t like to use LCD Reduced settings with Nvidia GPU because my GPU stops idling (rocking 1300mhz even without doing anything). Also altho the overdrive artifacts were completly gone at those settings on my AW2518HF, the ghosting/blur was evident, but I didn´t use FreeSync/Gsync as it adds noticeable input lag.
However if it works for you, go ahead! We all different.

G-Sync with RTSS frame limiter should have the same smoothness as scanline sync, because scanline sync is just the RTSS frame limiter timed to the monitor. So smoothness should be the same in both cases.

Theoretically.
Unfortunately, some VRR moniors/drivers duplicate a game's erratic frametimes a little imperfectly, so fixed-Hz can be a brute band-aid for that situation. Most of the time VRR outperforms. But.... I've seen S-SYNC occasionally be preferred over VRR when a game can sustain max-Hz framerates well.
Most of the time VRR is superior for stutter-free but S-SYNC has its use cases when there's extreme performance headroom where framerate=Hz don't use 100% CPU/GPU. Basically, if your computer can do perfect fluidity with VSYNC ON with virtually no framedrops, then S-SYNC becomes a viable option (As a low lag VSYNC ON lookalike technique). Framerate slowdowns can look worse with S-SYNC than VSYNC ON, but flat-out framerate can look superior in S-SYNC than VSYNC ON and )rarely) sometimes even VRR too. Fixed-Hz VSYNC ON looks great (except for lag) when you apply overkill GPU power at it, while VRR Is vastly more forgiving than S-SYNC and VSYNC ON. But the venn diagram has some small edge cases where one of the sync tech outperforms.

NVIDIA calls the FreeSync compatibility the "G-SYNC Compatible" mode.

The way he has listed it makes it look like he's testing it under two separate conditions - like maybe with a nvidia and then amd gpu unless I'm missing something.
