XL2546 VS XL2740

Which of these two monitors offers the best blur reduction and image quality/clarity with blur reduction/strobing enabled at 100-144hz?

There seem to be a lot of conflicting reports online. I want to run at 100hz as this is a long-term achievable performance baseline and from what I’ve read, being well under the monitor’s max of 240hz is preferable for low crosstalk and pixel overshoot in blur reduction modes with strobing enabled regardless of monitor.

I’ve also read that the 2546 has a slower pixel response time which adds more crosstalk than the 2740. Also that the 2546 is better in blur reduction/strobing mode as Dyac provides a brighter image in this mode. Is that the only difference in blur reduction mode between these two monitors?

People have said that the 2740 offers a clearer image as far as crosstalk is concerned but do they mean at 240hz without blur reduction/strobing enabled? At 100-144hz, with blur reduction/strobing enabled, is the 2546 actually better?

I also read that the 2546 can strobe down to 75hz and can be adjusted at 1hz intervals up. But, also that it double strobes at less than 100hz which provides a poor, flickering image. Can I use this monitor with strobing at 75hz and get a good image or is this not the case? Can this be done with the 2740 too?

If I do want to run either monitor at 240hz with and without strobing, is the 2740 the better option?

All 240Hz BenQ monitors can strobe at any arbitrary fractional Hz from 75Hz to 240Hz. (1Hz increments was for simplicity, but you can choose any fraction, like 173.941Hz or whatever).

The quality of XL2546 versus XL2740 is hard to compare directly because some criteria is better than others. It's hard to do an apples vs apples -- 144Hz strobe on one monitor versus 120Hz strobe on a different monitor can often yield totally different results than 120Hz versus 120Hz on two separate 240Hz monitors. One might give you more strobe crosstalk but brighter, while other might give you less strobe crosstalk while the other is dimmer.

But there's a rule of thumb that is a constant:
- Strobe crosstalk generally always decreases the more hertzroom you have (the lower Hz, the less crosstalk)

If your priority is crosstalk-free strobing, then you want as high Hz as possible (240Hz) and then use hertzroom below (120Hz or 144Hz) to reduce your strobe crosstalk. Now, different monitors can do it differently, e.g. overdrive optimized for strobing may be better with an NVIDIA ULMB monitor than with say, ASUS ELMB (at least it was the case for 2017-2018 era). So you may see a situation where 120Hz strobing looks better at 144Hz on one brand, but even 85Hz/100Hz strobing looks worse for a 144Hz panel on a different brand, simply because of differences in overdrive tuning only (despite being the exact same panel!).

But you have an advantage, you are comparing two BenQ models.
XL2740 vs XL2546 crosstalk: I have not seen them side by side in the same room to see which of the two has less crosstalk.
XL2740 vs XL2546 brightness: The DyAc model is definitely brighter.

At 75Hz it probably doesn't matter about crosstalk, you have lots of heartzroom so 75Hz strobing at 75Hz refresh rate running on a 240Hz BenQ will be very similar regardless of crosstalk quality at 240Hz strobing. The more hertzroom you have, the more similar the crosstalk quality becomes the lower Hz you go (i.e. converges to nearly zero crosstalk).

P.S. Side note, but If competitive lag isn't important, the 240Hz 1ms IPS panels will be very good 100Hz strobe panels (more CRT quality colors during strobing). I expect BenQ to announce theirs at some point.

I thought neither the XL2740 nor XL2546 could single strobe lower than 85hz?
