Which 240hz 1080p to get for Battle Royals?
Which 240hz 1080p to get for Battle Royals?
Hey,
So in a month or two i am getting a new rig and a monitor.
I'm not eSport pro FPS player but ranked FPS games is my main use (Mostly Apex Legends battle royle)
Right now in my current rig im using the XL2420G 144hz gsync disabled and I'm looking for a new monitor that will actually feel like an upgrade for shooters - better clarity so i can track enemies easier,Spray them easier and so on...
At first i was sure I'm gonna grab the new XL2546S when it comes out but after lurking around for a a while herer it seems its not the best option for competetive fps (which is wierd to me because it seems 80% of Pro players use this monitor)+it needs Vsync enabled for Dyac? also wierd for me:<
anyway I'm no expert like you guys
Which monitor should i go for? 1080p 240hz to have fast respone time- amazing clarity to track enemies and spray my gun easier
* I want to make it clear that i know no monitor would be make me a better player but i also want to know that the monitor I'm using is the best for what i need so i can focus on improving my gameplay/skill and know nothing holds me back( right now my monitor feels blurry and it feels like its hard to detect enemies which freaks me out)
Thank you

You don't need VSYNC ON for DyAc+niros wrote: ↑21 Apr 2020, 23:47At first i was sure I'm gonna grab the new XL2546S when it comes out but after lurking around for a a while herer it seems its not the best option for competetive fps (which is wierd to me because it seems 80% of Pro players use this monitor)+it needs Vsync enabled for Dyac? also wierd for me:<
Strobing just looks better with fps=Hz
However, ultra-high framerate VSYNC OFF can compensate, and still look smooth strobed. (Such as 500fps in CS:GO)
You want quality priorty with strobing? fps=Hz tech
You want latency priority with strobing? VSYNC OFF
Also, strobing can be disabled (DyAc can be disabled on XL2546S, and the 0.5ms 240Hz still benefits your esports scores).
fps=Hz can be achieved by multiple methods other than VSYNC ON too. Such as RTSS Scanline Sync or Low-Lag VSYNC HOWTO or capped ELMB-SYNC etc. Many tweaks find different ways to match frame rate to refresh rate to make strobed operation look better.
You've got the tweaking choice. Perhaps in a single-player solo RTS game, you'll use VSYNC ON strobed (or a low-lag fps=Hz sync technology). And for competitive CS:GO you'll use VSYNC OFF.

Hey
Thanks for the comment, right now my rig is not strong enough for 240hz ( i can push 190 on apex low settings)
I think i understand the idea of fps=hz, the rest? I feel clueless
I want a monitor that will grant me clarity, good visuals to track objects and so on..
xl2546s is the best option?
I usually play with vsync off and rtss at 190 fps cap
And i usually play games that are more demanding than cs (mostly BAttle royals)

Re: Which 240hz 1080p to get for Battle Royals?
I wrestled with the same dilemma as you OP. I finally settled on the BenQ xl2746S as I can't stand 24.5" monitors (too small). The <10 ppi difference is so negligible that it made no sense to me to get the 24.5" xl2546s.
I currently have a 4 year old Asus PG278Q so when the BenQ arrives next month I'll post my thoughts on it here.
