My refresh rate keeps changing

Post by Kamilton » 19 May 2020, 09:06

So I've recently bought a new monitor ASUS TUF VG279QM and I immediately started to run in to issues. Whenever I alt tab any game my refresh rate changes from 280hz to 60hz, in some cases when I go back to the game it reverts back to 280hz(csgo) but in different cases my refresh rate stays at 60hz untill I reboot my PC and manually change it back to 280hz. Whenever the issue occurs the resolution gets stuck at this nasty HDTV 1920x1080@60hz option in my nvidia control panel, I've tried to delete hdtv resolutions using CRU but I have failed(resolutions are gone from CRU, but even after reboot resolutions remain in nvidia control panel). I've unplugged my second monitor to check if it's an issue related to dual monitor setup but it wasn't the case. I am running MSI GTX 970 with NVIDA 445.75 drivers and I have my monitor plugged in via displayport.

I see nobody else has replied --

Were you able to fix the problem yet?

Thanks for reminding me about that, I've accidentally fixed that a day after posting but only today I have actually realised what was going on. When I was restarting my PC while having that broken fixed 60hz resolution, windows decided to save this resolution as "default" and change back to it whenever I would alt tab out of any game. All It took to fix the issue was doing another reboot after seting up 280hz at my desktop.

Hi, soo I have literally the same problem as you had (with the same monitor)... also checked my default Hz and its 280. Whenever I try to play any game in fullscreen my Hz drop from 280 to for example 144/84/60 (depends on the game). Noticed this problem in new CoD MWII, GTA V and CS soo I dont think that depends on the game... Whats worrying is that when I play cs this doesnt get bad instantly, but after alt+tab, and sometimes just after some time without doing anything (same with GTA). In CoD whenever I put game in fullscreen it goes instantly to 60hz. Also have to ask, whenever you alt+tabbed did u get black screen for like 5 seconds?
If it comes to my setting its: also two monitors, both connected with display port.
Already tried to change Nvidia control panel to 280hz... but it reverts back to 60/84 etc. in fullscreen,
also tried to disable full screen optimizations for .exe file and also didnt help :(
Anyone maybe can figure it out :D ? Im down to try whatever u say, bcs its really iritating.
