The best tuned backlight strobing for a 240hz ips is the the viewsonic elite xg270. And yes, strobing a 120hz and 144hz is excellent for competitive use since the dbl images are basically non existant.

The msi mag251rx and asus vg259qm is also good since their OD tuning(faster for msi, and 60 for vg259qm) are good throughout its refresh rate range. Strobing for the msi is decent at 240hz but best at 120hz. Elmb sync for the asus is good only from 200hz and above bcuz of the locked OD
Hello RLCScontender,

How is the image and color quality on the asus vg259qm compared to the msi mag251rx?

Thanks for clarifying. About Quake yea you can tweak the config file and change the refresh rate but i'm not sure if it can go up to 280hz or if it's possible to make use of it if the maxfps is 250 fps. The fps fluctuates a bit in quake live so it's never 250 stable it goes to like 230 sometimes and lower on bad maps.

I don't think that should happen in quakelive unless you have a weak PC.
try com_idlesleep 0 command.
thats usually what people forget (including myself) when i do fresh install and keep wondering why do i have fps drops.

I7 8700k cpu and still does. It's pretty normal for fps to drop in QL. Most people have fps drops specially on bad maps like corrosion and arkinholm. And yea using idlesleep 0 but still does even with lower resolutions. I think it's an issue with the maps not the cpu.

Try those maps with like 10 bots and you will see. The fps will go crazy..lol
Generally it's more stable but it does drop in certain areas of the maps sometimes and drops a lot on bad maps.

Hi @RLCScontender I have, like you, stronger backlight, the lower left corner you can see in my photos (I know this photo is horrible), I wonder if to return it to the store? Is this normal? What do you think about it? https://imgur.com/a/ktCMMZU

edit. Maybe a complex guide on how to set it up perfectly for games this MSI?

*****Breaking NEWS*****

My replacement acer predator xb273 x came today. My previous one was badly tuned(it wasn't tuned at all, it was stuck at the Acer nitro XV273x OD tuning. (acer rep from canada informed me via youtube and had me send it in for a replacement.

Image

This is the one they sent me and, the TUNING is excellent. This predator JUMPS a lot of monitors it should be in the very top. I will use two oscilloscopes for this because my cheaper digital oscilloscope is can't give me consistent rise/fall times.

I will do a double review coming up with the vg259qm and the acer predator xb273x since they arrived relatively close to each other. And how they fare against the beast MSI MAG251rx.

but yes, these THREE(FOUR if you count the vg279qm) are the fastest 240hz(280hz on the asus) IPS monitors.

Peak performance

1. Asus TUF VG259qm
2. Asus TUF VG279qm
3. MSI Optix MAG251rx
4. Acer predator xb273x

6. Dell Alienware AW2720HF

Response time to overshoot ratio

2. MSI MAG251rx

I think this is faster than the MSI MAG251rx AND it has literally 0 % overshoot.

however, i have to factor in a lot of other variables. Input lag, input lag @240hz, ULMB vs MSI's anti motion blur tech, etc.

That claim of 0.1 .g2g is bogus btw even if its on extreme od.

The fps fluctuates a bit in quake live so it's never 250 stable it goes to like 230 sometimes and lower on bad maps.

But in theory would using a higher refresh rate than the fps cap have any effects or benefit or it won't?
For example if the fps was stable at 250 and you used 260hz would that work or it would be better to use 240hz?

Also should I be using g-sync or free sync as well or would it add input lag?
what would be the best settings for using this monitor generally when gaming to get the lowest input lag?
Set the monitor to 280hz and enable Gsync/Freesync + ingame(or config file) fps cap

Unless you can constantly output more than 280fps I don't think it's worth to play with an uncapped framerate, personally I'm very sensible to tearing even at the higher refresh rate.

In games where my fps fluctuate between 220-300 I prefer setting the refresh rate to 240hz and capping at 236, this is a personal choice but I think it definitely helps muscle memory since you keep the frametime variations as consistent as possible.

actually, it will be a re review because my first panel(acer predator xb273 x had a monitor overlap defect) had defective tuning thanks to someone from acer canada catching it. Some models of the predator xb273x overlap with the models of the xv273x from the acer nitro. The nitro monitors aren't Tuned well and aren't inspected for optimal overdrive since freesync monitors don't have good quality control.
