I'm sorry to have to ask these questions here, but the actual forums (and customer service...) could not help me out with this at all... I realize most are focused on gaming monitors and motion resolution improvements but I think you guys are by far my best bet here.
Reason I'm posting is I'm finally looking to replace my 11 year old 1080p Samsung LE40B530 TV and I plan to mostly be gaming (avid gamer here, from competitive titles to story-driven RPG's) and watching movies + netflix shows on it. Unfortunately almost all eligible TVs have certain... issues and I don't have the chance to actually test them, outside of viewing a few of them in 'demo' mode in the stores that are open here. Performance in 'Movie' mode (or its equivalent) but especially in game-mode are the most important to me.
I live in Europe so my choices are down to the following: Sony X900H, Samsung Q90T (or Q80T) or LG CX (or C9). Good input lag, contrast and HDR capabilities are important to me, preferably in both movie and game mode if possible.
My issue:
I would love to just get the LG OLED and be done with it > best picture quality I've ever seen, bar none. I think I can manage reflections and the lower brightness just fine... but I'm quite unlucky with tech and my girlfriend will also be using the TV - burn-in scares the living hell out of me and there's no warranty for that kind of 'wear and tear' in Europe where I live. I don't know if I would be comfortable with this at all... I vary my content, but since burn-in is cumulative and I can get sucked into a game with a static HUD for a couple hundred hours a year... yeah...
The Q90T would be the next option: fantastic movie watching, great local dimming (despite being nerfed in game mode a bit; better than least year's by far), lots of features aimed at gaming, no burn-in concerns what-so-ever, decent motion handling... until you turn on game-mode and the PWM gets locked to 120hz, which apparently causes quite noticeable motion duplication at 60hz/fps content and even quadruppling with 30hz/fps content. I can't test this anywhere and having a huge TV hauled up to my appartment only to return it a few days later would be quite a headache if me or my partner doesn't agree with the PWM rate.
Last option would be the X900H. By far the 'least' in terms of picture quality, local dimming, viewing angles etc. However it's got a constant 720hz pwm dimming mode even in game-mode and I doubt we would notice this much at all. Also has the last gaming features, no optional BFI in game-mode without increasing input lag etc and has overshoot issues in the 0-20% transitions (which are patched on the Q90T and not an issue on the LG CX).
Do any of you have any advice for me on this issue? For instance: does anyone have experience with motion duplication/quadruppling on a Samsung display with gamemode enabled? I'm still leaning towards this option but I'm kind of bummed out that Samsung forces a 120hz PWM rate the second you flick on Game Mode. How would this even work in combination with Freesync for instance? If BFI and freesync can't be combined then how can this be?
My apologies for the lengthy post and thank you for your time!
