Hey i retested the msi. I really recommend fast over faster at 240hz. The inverse ghosting on faster maybe feint but it will annoy some ppl.

Fast is still fast at 3.46 g2g
Which means no inverse ghosting coronas with slight ghosting. Od fast is the same as od fast on the aw2521HF. I believe its the best OD for the mag251rx at 240hz. Here is a oursuit test at OD Fast at 240hz

So are you saying that hardware unboxed review is wrong when they stated that "Fast" OD was over 5ms?

So has no one posted what the best settings are for the MAG251RX? Specifically for slow fps shooter like PUBG. Night vision? Response time selection? My monitor comes Tuesday and I would like to know what's the best setting. My avg fps on the game is around 170-180s.

this is my first post here, because a im looking for further opinions or help. I am an older gamer (early 30s) and I'm still playing FPS kind of competitively. That being said i have played Q3 on a CRT 20 years ago and still miss, how the looked and felt visually back then. In 2012 i decided to invest in the then top tier xl2420t which lasted for 6 years until i went on to the aw2518h almost 2 years ago. I hated, i mean i HATED and still do how each of these TN panels looked, i always fell like i am missing details because of the washed out visualization - i came to realize that that is a TN thing and wont change. MY question to you pros is now: how likely will i be more satisfied with the IPS panel in the mag251rx? i cant really test monitors as i dont live near an electronics store, so i would like to have some insight before purchasing.

My friend, I feel your pain. (and if early 30's is "older", oh man, I'm screwed - lol) And welcome to the forums ! I want to first say, I am no pro. I am new here too in a sense and I also know not much. But, I was playing hard in the era you're talking about and I play hard now. And I played in-between too. So what I can do is give you my opinion and experience on this exact matter. CRT's are DOPE as far as looks, representation, input lag, everything - except high res, which we all want now.

I currently (before competitive gaming priorities) got into the latest best screens for looks alone. Input lag and motion blur/etc.. simply wasn't in my bag of caring in the games I played. So I got overly use to OLED 4k, Retina Screens, etc.. I'm even the pay to get calibrated type of guy. My stuff looks sweet !

Then I ignorantly got into Fortnite. lol. And I discovered the importance of quick response and input lag. So (after long research) got this MSI because yes, I needed more than TN panels visually. They just suffer from what I seen (but again keep in mind I am a rookie). I got this IPS MSI and I am happy BUT I must warn you, it is nothing like my OLED and Retina screens. (Keep in mind I still play my immersive games (Skyrim, etc..) and visual takes priority there). So matter fact the IPS panels are still so far off that I have decided I will need to get another monitor spec'ed for max visuals and use that for my immersive games and use the MSI for Fortnite.

Summary, this MSI is better than any TN panel I seen and I am happy with it for the competitive games, as I do not think you can do any better. BUT you need to stick to 1920x1080 and 25" for that. To answer you, the MSI is better than TN panels visually IMPO, but I can not tell you if that "better" is better enough to you to justify the purchase if you already got a TN there. It is a washed out look, yes. Just not as bad as TN. But still bad enough to make me wanna get a different monitor for immersive gaming.

Immersive gaming now a days needs 4k and OLED or Retina level monitors IMO and I don't care about any other spec lost (response time, input lag, etc..) cause that's how bad I need 4k and completely calibrated to industry stand colors/tones/etc..

So there you go. A honest opinion for someone who owns the monitor.

I don't own a 1ms IPS but am in the process of buying one. From my research you really want your 1ms IPS monitor to have some form of backlight strobing; it's the only way these new 1ms IPS can compete with TN motion clarity. These new IPS do achieve 240hz but not without some overshoot, which will definitely hurt motion clarity a bit and introduce corona artifacts (that's why ULMB is needed). The Alienware AW2521HF for instance does not have any so it's a no-go, but the VG259QM or MAG251RX both do. Especially the VG259QM would be my go (I'm currently hunting for one as it's out of stock everywhere at this time) with ULMB-SYNC.

So one thing I noticed with the MAG251RX:

When activating "Anti Motion Blur" to ON, it locks the Response Time setting, preventing it to be modified through the OSD.

I assumed that it override the Response Time, but actually it doesn't, it just locks it to whatever you set before. If you set the Response Time to "Normal" before activating AMB, the results are much different than setting it to "Faster" before activating AMB.

It looks best to me when setting it to "Fast" before activating AMB.

If you want the fastest/least crosstalk possible, make sure to set Response Time to "Fastest", (you can try setting to Normal then back to Fastest to make sure it's applied properly), THEN activate Anti Motion Blur.

Got this monitor today and I am bit disappointed,compared to AOC AG271QG,mag251rx refresh rate and response times are bit better,but image quality is signifacantly worse,picture looks more washed out,even when MSI have maybe slightly richer color gamut,probably matte screen coating also do not help,semi-glossy coating on AOC is far more ideal,backlight bleed is quite bad on my unit,worse then on 27" AOC.

And biggest issue so far is that even on minimum brightness monitor is too bright.Can somebody post monitor setings I have everything on default,expect brightness which is on "0".

In the earlier part of this thread there is a color profile you'll want to use. Download it and use it as default.

Odd, cause I like really warm, natural, unhyped display. And I got my contrast on 50 and brightness on 80. Looks good to me. I mean, as good as IPS can get I guess, lol. For you to be on 0 brightness and still say its too bright means you got some setting causing something wrong. Make sure you're on "USER" for the natural look to then dial in from there. Not on any of the other goofy presets.
