Zowie 2546k 240hz or Asus pg259qn hz

Post by NoiZ » 06 Dec 2020, 12:36

Hi I'm asking u guys/gals here that uses both screens or at least one of them.
I only fps games and mostly csgo.
I get around 350+ fps constant and I have a good computer to drive the monitor.
I've owned the 2546s and also the regular 2546.
I like dyac+ but I'm wery curious to try out the new 360hz to be future proofed.
I don't have a screen atm and just built my gaming computer so now it's the screen.
Have liked the benqs but it's still TN and I'm looking to switch to ips.

So just gimme your opinions on the good/bad and let's see we're I end up.
Have a great weekend 👍👍

Hi,

I've got both these monitors and I play (competitively) an old FPS game which I run at 360+ FPS in most cases. Like you, I was also wondering about which I should better buy between the XL2546K and the PG259QN.

I first went for the XL2546K because of the better UFO images that could be obtained with DyAc+. The monitor felt more responsive and faster compared to my previous 1440p 240Hz monitor from Lenovo. But then I realized that it was also the case with DyAc+ OFF.
I thus got the intuition that stroboscopics was in my eyes the dominating variable for motion quality. For me, DyAc+ or blur reduction, it is not as important as stroboscopics.

Reason why I purchased the PG259QN. I unboxed my PG259QN on Saturday and I won't switch back to the XL2546K. My game experience was evidently enhanced with this monitor. And for me, it is clearly thanks to the refresh rate. The improvement from 240 to 360 Hz is 'substantial' although I can't really call it 'massive'. It is about as much improvement as I would have expected. I'm really happy with my game experience with this monitor, I really enjoy swapping my crosshair between opponents during those killing streaks. Altough improved, the experience is still far from perfect, and I know I would definitely benefit from having an even higher refresh rate monitor, up to at least 1000 Hz.

Also, the PG259QN is IPS whereas the XL2546K is TN.
By the way, the XL2546S and the XL2546K have the same panel I believe:

Ok interesting. Is it quake that u play then perhaps?
How is the tearing if you drop under 360 fps during games?
And I've owned the 2546s also so I know that screen pretty good also.
I think it's the same panel it's just updated in the software in the K model.
It's just an expensive monitor and I'm willing to give it a try just to see if it's for me. Or else it's just to send it back and change to an Xl2546k instead because there I know what I'm getting for my money.
🙏

No, I play MoH:AA (Medal of Honor Allied Assault) but this game runs on quake3 engine.
There is no tearing because I use G-Sync. I also put vSync=Fast and I block FPS in Nvidia Control Panel to 360, which in practice blocks it to below 360, around 350. This setting is supposed to prevent input lag. I've seen this advice on this forum.

Ok I'll look some more before I'll decide. I only play csgo and I know a few pro teams are trying the asus out also.
Get around 350 + fps on most maps and can easily look my fps to day 400. Don't want to use g sync though.
But I appreciate the input always fun to hear people think of the monitors.
I'm really curios what BenQ is gonna release next also. 360hz at least. Probably gonna be a beast that monitor.

Also trying to decide between the PG259QN vs the Zowie XL2546K. The game I play I would probably dip below 360 FPS every few minutes during high action (Valorant), when this occurs are the framerate dips at all noticeable?

I would like to know because if I can see the framerate dip it takes my focus away from the game, and often starts tilting me.

I don't play Valorant. For the game I play, I can have significant FPS drop below 360 but I don't notice it thanks to G-Sync.

Update for both of you.
I disabled G-Sync but kept vSync=Fast enabled (to prevent tearing).
I tested for situations where there are FPS drops between 250-360. The game experience is similar to before with G-Sync ON, that is to say the FPS drops are not really noticeable (i.e. the experience remains smooth).

Sounds good I'm just a bit reluctant because I see several people returning them because of weird panel issues. Some have weird color tints and other complain on bad colors and also back bleeding a lot. Just don't want to spend almost 800us and then have to ship it back right away. They are hard to come by. So need to see what's up before picking one up. Thinking on picking up the 2546k and try it out. But was super excited to try out an ips for once.
