I need help, which monitor should i buy?

Post by Itaxchi » 09 Mar 2021, 14:23

My aim is to play shooter with a 240Hz monitor, but there are so many features and I don't even know what exactly I can set.
So I have an eye on these monitors: Dell AW2521HF; Benq XL2546S; Asus VG259QM
I took those monitors because I want a good image quality, no motion blur, very low input lag, no ghosting and g-sync compability.
The Dell monitor has no anti motion blur tech, but really low input lag, good image quality, g-sync and no ghosting..
but I somehow want motion blur reduction as well.. but now the problem:
I heard about the benq one that with dyac u should only play with 182Hz (what?) otherwise the motion blur stays.. then it has no g-sync so guess i will have tearing and on top of that i heard it also has some green ghosting when having bright images for example while scrolling while having black text on white background. The image is also darker when using DyAc (true?) . What is your opinion on this monitor? Are these things true?
Now the Asus monitor.. I heard asus monitors have qualitiy issues (means u have to be lucky to get a good monitor), then when you use elmb u can only play at 120 fps or something (so why buying 240hz) . This monitor is g-sync compatible and you can activate it with elmb.. but what happens to the input lang? This monitor has 280Hz and low input lag. But input lag is only low if you use max refresh rate so I can not use it with elmb.

I am kind of confused what to set at each monitor.. and how to handle the BLT function (DyAc/ELMB).. what is your experience with these monitors? What is the difference between ULMB, ELMB and DyAc? Can you tell me what to adjust for each monitor for low input lag high refresh rate little (only if possible none) tearing and no motion blur? Should I use overdrive if i have ghosting or does input lag increase? I just don't know what to do.

I really appreciate every answer to get me out of this hell. :D

If 240Hz/fps is what you are playing at constantly then you won't benefit much from backlight strobing (DyAc, ELMB...) Its better to use it at lower refresh rates like 120, 144Hz.
VG25/279QM ELMB or ELMB-SYNC is only good at refresh rates above 200Hz, below that stars to get funky and introduces overshoot/coronas and overdrive can not be modified to reduce coronas when such feature is enabled. So that is a range where you won't benefit much wich makes it useless. Not to mention the untuned elmb crosstalk. Rather consider MAG251RX wich does much better in every aspect.
VG has lowest input lag i've experienced so far (viewtopic.php?p=63624#p63624) but has an higher lag issue with refresh rates bellow ∿100Hz and that happens only if resolution is set to fixed e.g. 1920x1080@60Hz or 85Hz. Input lag at 100+Hz are very good. So if you use it @100+, 240+Hz... with g-sc enabled and synced fps goes down to 60Hz/fps then there is no input lag issue.
When ELMB/SYNC is enabled i measured even lower lag/reaction times at ∿154ms wich is surprising, because usually it would be ∿2ms higher wich noone can tell the difference when actually using it. So don't worry about it with this or other monitors.

TN panels are known for poor color reproduction and viewing angles, its kinda old tech now and I would personally avoid it since its not so "future proof". Zowie has the best motion clarity (dyac+) on the market, and well tuned crosstalk unlike some new IPS panels - that would be the difference between dyac and elmb. Don't worry about it getting darker... You don't have to use it @182Hz only.
2546S is discontinued i believe, so if zowie ends up being your choice 2546K is the updated version.

There are some better monitors options with more features than AW2521HF even tho alienware monitors are have a very good built quality and premium feel to it.

If you're willing to spend some extra money, these new 360Hz monitors would be a solid upgrade.
