BenQ XL2546k or ASUS VG259QM

Post by fullsender » 20 Mar 2021, 14:34

I play CSGO and Valorant competitively and at a pretty high level. I've been using my PG248Q for almost 5 years so I would like to upgrade to a 240hz monitor.
Right now, I have XL2546k and VG259QM in mind.

XL2546k is $550
VG259QM is on a big sale at $345 in my country.

Competitive performance is pretty important to me and I dont really care too much about colours since I have using TN panels for like 10 years.

I want the most competitive edge but I want to know if it is worth it to pay $200 more for the XL2546k.

Any pros and cons and may I know the objective response time for these 2 monitors?

I am open to other IPS monitors as well but they are at least $70-100 more expensive, so i have narrow down to these 2 options rn.

Thank you!

That’s a very good price — VG259QM at only $345 in a country where XL2546K is $550

Both VG259QM and XL2546K is much better than PG248Q. It is up to you which you prefer, but IPS is now good enough to be competitive nowadays. The difference between IPS and TN is extremely tiny nowadays in the 240Hz+ leagues, ever since the new “Fast IPS” panels came out recently. It now almost boils down to personal preferences, especially since the VG259QM is extremely low lag. In fact, it was measured to have less lag than many models of 240 Hz TN!

Personally I’d go VG259QM with that big a savings but the XL2546K is also pretty good too. You’ll be happy with either upgrade route relative to an overclocked 180 Hz.

P.S. Eventually, you will want to plan an 8 KHz mouse (configured to ~2 KHz) to max out the benefits of 240Hz-360Hz range. Optimally mouse Hz at least 4x, preferably about 6x higher than display Hz.

Thanks for the response, but I have heard of some negative stuff about the VG259QM, such as "backlight bleeding", "ips glow".
Also, I was told that the XL2546k has 1.7 ms GtG average response time compared to VG259QM's 3.5+ms. I want to know if the response time difference is noticeable or not.
Btw, other than benq xl2546k, is there any other 240hz monitors with TN panels?

I have 200+fps on csgo and 170+fps on valorant. dont know if it matters but I just put this out here. I will upgrade my pc soon though.

My VG259QM unit had absolutely no backlight bleed/ips glow, it doesn't seem like a common issue on the Asus.

1.7ms vs 3.5+ms is only if you compare AMA High on the Benq vs OD 60 on the Asus, OD60 is suboptimal if you want to achieve fast response times, OD80 and OD120 are respectively 1.9 and 2.6ms G2G and provide some improvements.
However be aware that every single overdrive that I mentioned suffers from overshoot.

From my experience the Benq is better than the Asus but only in terms of motion clarity (both with Dyac ON/OFF) and OSD customization, the Asus is better in literally every other aspect.

It's hard to justify the Benq when it's 200$ more pricey than the Asus, it makes sense only if you are either trying to go professional or you don't care about anything else except motion clarity.

I am kind of a semi-professional in both games and I dont really care about the color. Competitive performance is very important to me but if the difference is not that big in terms of competitive performance, then I will go for the VG259QM since its $200 cheaper.
The difference is not that noticeable in terms of motion clarity right?

I have the same problem. At this point in time, considering availability and everything, I decided its between the XL2546K and VG259QM. I actually bought both of these monitors and used them each for about 2-3 weeks and I could not pick a definitive winner, though I am leaning towards the VG259QM just to save the money.

I just cant decide. I am pretty old school and I gamed on a CRT up until it was like dead. For this reason, I kind of wanted to go to benq Xl2546K route for that clarity with motion and that like crystal clear screen feel. I am looking for low input lag and low response times as well.

The problem is the Asus is pretty damn good as well and really close to the XL2546K. I would also say the VG259QM is easily the best all around monitor with a small nod to the XL2546K for motion clarity.

So the question comes down to, is the XL2546K worth literally $200 more for worse OSD features, colors, picture, viewing angels but very slight improvement for motion blur. $550 is expensive for a TN panel... It is definitely hard to justify. The problem is I still may want to go for the BenQ for the CRT like feel I used to like with dyac+ on. And on the otherside of that, would I always want dyac+ on for everything? I am not the type that wants to keep toggling osd features on/off.

I just cannot decide. I havnt been this torn on a computer hardware decision in a long time. Both monitors are a good choice. Is Xl2546K worth an extra $200 for worse everything except motion blur? That is the question. Youre literally buying the XL2546K just for the dyac+ pretty much.

how about XG258Q? I dont see it mentioned that much but it is one of the few 240hz TN panel monitors out there.
