Upgrading to IPS 240hz coming from 240hz tn

Post by dutchie84 » 06 Jul 2021, 06:46

So coming from a zowie xl2546 240hz panel
With good motion blur reduction and low input lag , is moving to a IPS panel worth it?
I'm really interested in the MSI Optix MAG251RX monitor but will i lose a lot of clearity ? The viewing angles and the clear colors is what i'm missing with zowie but losing a competitive edge is not what i want..hope you guys can help me out

Cheers!

Keep your XL2546K for a couple more years.

Oh, didn't see that.
But still, keep it. Wait for couple more years for things to improve a little bit. Then the upgrade would be worthy.

The XL2546 is still a great monitor and it's widely used by the competitive scene.

Imo you should save up for next gen of 360hz panels.

It would be a noticeable improvement color wise. However, I am not sure its worth it for someone coming from an already decent monitor, since everything else would be more or less similar. If I were you, I would wait a couple more years.

Wow, after reading all these comments I felt obligated to share my POV on this. No offense to the people who have replied to this post but the advice that's being given in here is unbelievable. Yes, I'd strongly suggest you get a 240hz IPS monitor, the colors on the BenQ monitors are just honestly pretty bad and dull, but they're very good at selling the "competitive edge" dream + having so many sponsorships in the e-sports pro scene helps too. First, if you DON'T use DyAc, you should get any of these monitors: VG259QM/VG257QM, MAG251RX, AW2521HF/AW2521HFL. They're virtually identical montion-clarity wise as the latest 240hz BenQ's (XL2546S, XL2546K; both faster than your first-gen 2546), in fact the VG259QM is so very slightly faster than the XL2546K non-strobed at 280hz (which is faster than your XL2546). With that said, I suggest you go with the MAG251RX, the VG25XQM monitors are not that great at under 200 fps which is a deal breaker for me, and from what I've heard the MSI has better strobing + it's prob slightly faster than your XL2546 while having much better colors. If you really need DyAc, wait for the Viewsonic XG2431, which should come out this month or next. According to Chief Blur Buster, its strobing should be comparable or at least pretty close to DyAc (and have a lot more strobing options; from 60hz all the way up to 240hz) while still being an IPS monitor. Anyway, like I said, if you don't use DyAc, don't even think about it, get the MAG251RX, you 100% won't lose your competitive edge. Greetings!

Well it's a matter of expectations and how much OP values the money he would spend on this purchase. While I believe the 240hz IPS monitors offer a better package, spending 350-400$ just for an improvement in colors is not worth it for everyone.

I don't know about 1440p 240Hz IPS monitors, but you will notice a small downgrade in motion clarity if you go with one of the 24'' 240Hz/280Hz 1080p IPS monitors. I'm currently using the VG258QM TN and I'm waiting for next generation 24'' IPS to come out. Here's what I suggest you do. Try the ASUS VG259QM 280Hz IPS and see if you like it over your XL2546. if you end up not liking it, return it.

I just received the VG259QM 280Hz and came from an Acer 144 TN. And now I’m wondering if I should returns it for the TN version. I just like the feel of TN and almost went with the VG258QM. You really liking that monitor, yeah?
