The Official *Asus VG259QM* Owners Thread (+ Secret Overdrive)
Re: The Official *Asus VG259QM* Owners Thread (+ Secret Overdrive)
I join for this question. I have set 280hz and overdrive 120, is it best for gaming? I saw screenshots in the forum, and overdrive 80 is better in digits...

Same here...Had to stop using 235hz cuz of that. I guess for most people 235hz at 100OD works without issues?casual_platypus8 wrote: ↑01 Oct 2021, 20:15Anyone have black screen issues with 235hz? When I adjust it in CRU, sometimes my screen goes black for 2-3 seconds only to come on again like nothing happens. It's rather intermittent, only happening once every half hour to an hour or so. It has never happened to me when using 280hz.

Hey guys, what happens if FPS vary between 160 and 240? is OD 120 still better than the rest? (240hz)

Was looking at these IPS panels. Going by the ratings website this one out of all the 360hz panels seems to be best for grey and black uniformity. Is it good for back light bleed too? From. My experience these newer monitors with the thin bezels usually have 0 back light bleed.
What are the whites like? Is it white or do they look more yellow or grey?
Anyone have any issues with gsync vrr brightness fluctuations at lower frame rates <40fps?
Thank you.

In this scenario, elmb on, adaptive sync off at 280hz do I cap my fps at say 500 in csgo or do I cap below, I want the least amount of input lag while using elmb on 280hz.axaro1 wrote: ↑09 Mar 2021, 17:44ELMB is strobing, basically when you start a refresh cycle a color goes from X to Y, and it takes a percentage of the refresh window to do so, this produces motion blur due to the transition not being instantaneous.
ELMB and other strobing technologies cut the color transition period, by switching off the backlight, only to flash it when the transition is over, this ends up removing motion blur and showing you only a completed (or partially completed) color transition.
This translates into better motion clarity, but it has some downsides:
1) due to the backlight switching OFF and back ON there will be a brightness penalty
2) there will be crosstalk on the top/bottom of the screen, not at the center
3) You are more sensible to stutters and refresh rate fluctuations (you always need fps>=refresh rate)
4) Some people are sensible to eyestrains
Personally I love strobing and I believe that it's worth the tradeoffs.
Standard ELMB works quite well on the VG259QM at both 240 and 280hz however when you enable ELMB + Adaptive Sync the backlight will double strobe and you won't be able to benefit from impoved motion clarity.
Best settings are ELMB ON, Adaptive SYnc OFF, either 240 or 280hz and Black boost to 2 or 3.

If you can pull that much fps just go with the uncapped framerate.

Re: The Official *Asus VG259QM* Owners Thread (+ Secret Overdrive)
hi guys i have bought ASUS TUF Gaming VG279QM 280hz monitor ,everything is okay about monitor but i wanted to try 1440x1080 custom resolution on valorant .
im able to create timing standart at automatic or cvt reduced blank but these settings has significantly slow pixel clock and refresh rate as u can see in the pictures below . when i try cvt dmt or gtf monitor goes black and says out of range is there any way to create this custom resolution at 280hz ?

I've seen that this monitor has ridiculously high input lag at 60hz. What does this mean in practise, if I'm playing games at 60hz freesync? If there is no workaround to reduce lag I guess I'll consider another monitor.
I found this thread which answers my question, so I'll put it here in case anyone is interested.

Is there a secret od120 for the vg258qm? It seems the overdrive is in levels 0-5 not in numbers.
