The monitor's volume adjustment and the windows volume adjustment are both set to max but there is still no sound coming from the monitor speakers. I have to either go into the monitor's OSD settings and mute/unmute the display or disable/enable the sound under "Set up digital audio" in Nvidia Control Panel to start hearing sounds from the monitor speakers.

Did this happen before with earlier NVIDIA drivers? This isn't something that happens to me, so I'm curious if it's an audio driver issue. I'm curious to know if many others are affected by this.

Is ultra fast overdrive the better one to use over advanced? On youtube i think its recommended highest setting but i think i read somewhere use advanced. Also does the black equalizer help with gamma issues at all, i tried nvidia control panels gamma and the colors became weird. Like white is not white. Also does the brightness setting before strobing affect strobing at all since it gets locked when you turn it on. I think the missing gamma control is the only real negative i can think of after 1 day use.

edit: i used tomshardware color settings and i just tried the recommended settings here on page 77 and it's much better. my white is white again not blueish.

Recommended overdrive setting depends on which refresh rate you are using. And also partially panel temperature.

1a. If playing at lower Hz, raise your overdrive preset.
1b. If playing at higher Hz, reduce your overdrive preset.
Overdrive needs to be stronger for higher Hz, weaker for lower Hz. Sometimes the overdrive setting on monitors are not Hz-compensated.

2a. If playing at colder temperatures, raise your overdrive preset.
2a. If playing at warmer temperatures, reduce your overdrive preset.
If you are playing in winter in a very cold room, you may want to use stronger overdrive than if you're playing in summer in a hot room. A lower major overdrive preset at high temperatures looks similar to a higher overdrive preset at lower temperatures.

On some monitors such as BenQ, the differences between AMA settings are huge, but on monitors like ViewSonic, the differences between the overdrive presets are much slighter, especially since there is also more choice of overdrive presets. Thus, the presets in XG2431 are slight enough difference from eeach other that even room temperatures just a few degrees warmer/colder (3-5 degrees even) can create an equivalent of 1-klik of change in overdrive preset setting.

I am having a problem with my monitors frequency changing. When I log into Overwatch, this is what the "Information" tab says:

H-Frequency - 134.9KHz
V-Frequency - 120.0KHZ
Pixel Clock - 296.7MHz

However when I do a memory recall I get this information:

This is not the monitor's fault. Don't need to use memory reset.

It's the software's fault -- Windows/games often repeatedly switch refresh rates. For example menu or FMV cutscene might be 120Hz but the game might be 240Hz. Software can switch refresh rates with just one line of code. Sometimes changing monitors will automatically reset software settings if the game software profile is memorized per-monitor-model.

Even if the game software only memorize refresh rates per monitor model (and settings got lost when you switched monitors) -- the responsibility is still the other end of the cable -- because the GPU is the responsible generator of the frequencies, and the software controls the GPU.

Make sure the game settings keep the refresh rate high -- google "Overwatch refresh rate" for instructions. Most common fix for Overwatch is Options -> Video Settings.

It's funny how DELL surged quickly in the list to go ahead of the XG2431.

Usually they purchase more than 1 of the top voted panels, so even if it's 2nd place, it'll at least probably be purchased. Especially since it's one of the more inexpensive 240Hz 1ms IPS models on the market. Not guaranteed, but they have a historical habit of hoovering up a few of the top candidates, especially if they have a good budget during that cycle. Who knows?
