Help with budget 144hz monitor. Is 2019 IPS bad?

Post by RestTarRr » 22 Mar 2022, 12:50

I'll be buying a second hand 144hz monitor and I can't choose from a few.

24g2 seems to have really good reviews from youtubers, from people in the comments and even from some people in the forums. However there's others that are saying it's trash and that IPS is only worth it if it's 2020 or newer panels. I don't know who to believe. From UFO pictures it seems really competitive and the price is very good. For some reason it's the one I am mostly looking forward to - 110 euro.

The other options I found were:

XL2411 - 100 euro(he hasn't answered yet so I don't know if it's still available)

xl2411k - 175 euro

vg248qg - 140 euro

KG241Q - 125 euro

vg258/258qr/258q - 100 euro, not sure what the model is because he hasn't answered yet.

Which one of these would you say is the best in terms of gaming? I'd mainly be playing shooters like PUBG, Apex, CS:GO, Valorant, etc. Are any of these monitors better than the 24g2 and is the extra price worth it?

The xl2411k. Dyac is insanely good for PUBG, Apex & Valorant. Also the Black eQualizer, Color Vibrance is nice on it. If I'm not mistaken it also has a scaler for CS GO. But 175 euro is not cheap. New its not more then 200 euro.

I decided to get the 24g2 for now because the benq is out of my budget currently. Once I have enough money I'd sell the aoc and upgrade as I should be able to sell this monitor for pretty much what I am buying it for right now.

However at 200 euro price point is the xl2411k still the best buy? People are selling the IPS and the TN version of the 240hz Alienwares for that much. Does the benq perform better?

Last option is to save a bit more and get xl2456k for 300 euro if it's still available 2nd hand and if the benq is worth the extra 100 euro.

Check if have 24G2ZU or 24G2ZE (240Hz) available in your country. Price difference is negligible, at least here in Croatia.

Def. save for the XL2546K it's hands down the perfect monitor for the games u play: PUBG Apex and CS. In PUBG and Apex visibility is a huge factor. Trust me when I say it's a huge disadvantage if u dont spot a enemy early on. IPS monitors are a blurry mess compared to the XL2546K in those games. In CS GO u want to scale on your monitor not your GPU. IPS monitors only have GPU scaling. If you like games like Elden Ring or Dark Souls get a IPS for sure. Those games looks way better on IPS. Then 1440p becomes interesting also.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully will get it sooner rather than later. BTW how is dyac when your fps is below the monitor refresh rate? At the moment I can pull anywhere between 100-200 fps in PUBG, average engagement around 140ish. With a slight upgrade I hope to get it up by 30-40. Would the benq still be the best even when fps can't always be 240?

They are between 210-230 euro. Would you say they are better than the alienwares and the xl2411k?

Isn't it still better to go for xl2456k for 70 more euro?

It's still great. No one gets a stable 240+ in PUBG; still its regarded as the best PUBG monitor. Its still great for tracking the enemy and also the recoil control is way better. The screen remains non blurry while shooting, so u can still track the enemy. This is also the case in Apex. So not just spotting the enemy early on is a huge advantage, the way better recoil control also.

It always depends on what you need. Personally I wouldn't buy a TN monitor in 2022, especially for that much money. AOC build quality does feel cheap tho. Panel used is 2021 fast IPS. If u're not an extremely competitive player 144Hz will do good. Don't rush, do some proper research before purchasing.

If it helps I got a Asus VG278Q and if I had to chose again I would have purchased a AOC 27G2.

Friend had one and I found it better in colour sharpness. Just better overall.
