So the point of G-Sync is when your FPS does drop, the module drops the refresh rate of the monitor to match your FPS so you don't get tearing. If you're playing any game from the past 2-3 years on maximum settings(Battlefield 3/4, Metro, Planet Side II, Tomb Raider), it's going to take a toll on your graphics card.
CS:GO, I keep VSYNC off, but limit FPS in the engine to 140.
In fact, on most games I keep VSync off, but I guess if I am producing more than 144FPS, then there is no difference between GSync on and VSync on, right? Monitor gets rid of frames to keep the 144 going strong.
Huh, I'm going to do some tests tonight. I do know that I have my Global Settings in nVidia to default to GSync on all the time, so maybe it doesnt matter what I have set in game?
