Hi, im undecided between the acer xv252qf and msi mag251rx, between the 2 monitors which has the most clarity or less motion blur. My main game is Apex Legends on 1080p, 250fps capped.

We can capture what tracking eyes see with camera and that is very nicely demonstrated with these ufos. So what you see here everybody else does. I think its pretty obvious which one is cleaner. When it comes to how it 'feels' that is a matter of refresh rate smootheness and latency so ofcourse 390 will feel snappier than 240. And that can not be captured.

Now you must know will you even benefit from blur reduction tech - are you a 'tracking gaze' (ufos) type player or 'stationary gaze'? You will mostly not benefit from blur reduction with stationary eyes while with tracking you will. So before buying anything find this out first. For tracking eyes go for better strobing, for non-tracking go for higher refresh rate (see more here). Realistically both benefit from faster refresh rate and response times but this is a one or other situation. And note strobing is less benefitial when fps≠hz due to image doubling, so that is something to keep in mind when buying 390Hz.

I used to have that Alienware and noticed some distracting blur even tho it was 240Hz. Than I tried strobing, than IPS, CRT and bunch more stuff to realize 3 years later only solution to the type of blur I see is 1000+Hz/fps. Eventually started to get tired of competitive gaming and stopped...

From my experience the XV252QF beats the 2546K when unstrobed, the only issue I have with this monitor is that in order to achieve perfect motion clarity with strobing I need 390fps at all times.

In previous comments I stated that 240+/300+ fps was enough but a quick look into Smoothfrog with pixel speed being a multiple of 390 (with 2730-3120 or even 3510pps) shows that even 330 and 360fps are nowhere as clear as 390.

These kind of strobe induced double images simply destroy motion clarity.

As for the panel being better at 144hz I tried to test it in Overwatch and I agree, it does feel better in terms of clarity (because panel response times have 100% compliance with a 7.2ms window, mind you, this was also true for the 2546K) but I personally don't perform better.

I'm now only using this monitor with VRB off and it's in my opinion better than VRB Extreme when I can't output 390fps consistently, for the few games where I can output 390fps VRB Extreme makes a huge difference and I prefer it over unstrobed mode, the issue is with games such as Apex that are both unoptimized and hard capped at 300fps.

There's Ali from Optimum Tech who reached Master in Apex while using this monitor with VRB Extreme at 390hz and I have no idea of how he isn't bothered by these kind of strobing artifacts.
At 300fps with 390hz strobing 1 every 4 frames should be a double image.

I think that this is a solid monitor for competitive fps, the issue is that there are too many variables that are required to get the best experience out of it.

Thanks for your helpful advice, i've decided to go for the msi mag251rx as I wouldnt be able to fully utilize the 360hz as my pc only runs Apex around 250fps. Hopefully it will be a noticeable upgrade over my current monitor AOC 24g2 without MBR which is extremely blurry when I play Apex during when I look around my surroundings or having close range fights in Apex which kind of makes me dizzy and fatigue.

Wondering if you prefer G-sync on to stop the tearing? Is tearing an issue at those hz?
I can see why you don't like strobing with insufficient fps. If 144hz is too laggy, how about 240hz/300hz?

Tearing is subtle at 390hz but yeah, it does benefit from Gsync/Freesync, 390hz is already super smooth and pairing it with VRR makes sense.

But be aware that at sub 200 fps you start to feel overshoot from OD Normal.

If for some reason you don't want to use VRB at the maximum refresh rate you can also force OD Extreme (even though it's locked when Gsync is enabled) by disabling Gsync, choosing the OD and re-enabling Gsync (at sub 300fps overshoot is 100% noticeable so use this trick only if you plan to use something like a 385/387fps cap).

OD Scaling is the same with Gsync/Freesync ON/OFF

It's not that 144hz is too laggy, it's actually the opposite with VT tweaks, it's just that I can't get used to 144hz after using 240hz for years and switching to 390hz 2 months ago, even with Gsync and a 144hz cap.

I'd rather use 390hz + VRR with locked 240/300 fps than create a custom resolution (unless I'm desperate for VRB ON), in that case a custom resolution with tweaked VT is a better solution.

I may pick this up today. VRB can be used at 240hz right? Might reduce blur. I thought you posted a video of that but can't find it. The other videos look ok compared to my Dell S2716dg w/ ULMB.

Hey guys, I have a pc with rtx 2070 super + ryzen 3600 + 16 gb 3200mhz and i’m upgrading my 144hz monitor… I mainly play csgo, sometimes valorant and other fps titles and I would like to get as competitive as possible!
I’m considering the xv252qf because of ips + VRB as I’m fairly sensitive to motion blur, however I don’t think my rig can handle 390+ fps for most of the time…
So, does this monitor perform well at 240hz? Or I’ll be better of with a xl2546k(around $120 more expensive for a used one in my region)? I’ve looked at some charts and have watched a few videos but I’m not an expert, so I’m looking for help!
Any feedback is welcome! Thanks guys!
