ASUS VG259QM or ViewSonic XG2431 (for a tactical FPS player)

Hello blurbusters community! I am searching for a new monitor (coming from a 2017 GN246HL; yeah I know...) and thanks to this forum I have been able to narrow down my choices between the ASUS VG259QM & ViewSonic XG2431 which I think would best suit my needs. I strictly only play FPS shooters (Valorant at the moment, Apex occasionally). From my understanding the VG259QM is actually not "true" 280hz and that comes with its own problems? Can you guys help me weigh the pros and cons of each? I tried doing my research but they are not often directly compared as I assumed.

I'd get the VG259QM. I tried that XG2431 and it gave me serious eyestrain. There are other users on the XG2431 thread that experience eyestrain as well.

Also, the VG259QM has a better contrast ratio and a slightly faster response time.
