Asus PG27AQN Image retention issue, is this normal?

Post by DarioFubar » 15 Nov 2023, 12:20

Hey i just bought an Asus Rog Swift PG27AQN. I checked the monitor with the https://www.testufo.com/ghosting test and after 3 minutes or so i opened my browser and i noticed the image retention from the test.

My question is now is this normal for this specific model and can anyone else who owns it confirm this or is this a defect and should i RMA it and get a replacement?

Short answer, is typically yes, this can happen on LCD with certain test patterns, especially on higher refresh rate LCD, but it's usually temporary.

I see you also got the ASUS PG27AQN . So this happens to yours as well when you have the ghosting ufo test running for 3 minutes or so?
I wonder why none of the youtube reviews mention this, this seems something i would include in a review.

I haven't used the test patterns on this model long or frequently enough to confirm. I got exactly what you pictured on my older XB271HU 165Hz IPS model though.

Probably because what triggers it are relatively fringe scenarios, it's not permanent, and it happens on most high refresh rate LCDs to one degree or another.

Would you mind testing it? If yours shows the same behavior then at least i know that this won't be resolved by rmaing it. But if yours does not show the same behavior i know it can be resolved. Just because of the price of this monitor and for the peace of mind.

Did you try any of the anti burn-in tools in the OSD menu?

Like what for example?

I will try to just display a static image to it for a few hours and see whether it shows any signs of IR.

Then play for a week on it and see whether HUD elements will cause IR or anything else distracting.

If its fine i will keep it and if not i will rma it cause for this price this shouldn't be an issue.

What are the steps to replicate?

There aren't any for this model; it's not an OLED.

You can run the attached (fullscreen screensaver version of JScreenFix; very old and no longer readily available) after getting the temporary image retention depicted in your OP.

Should clear it up within a couple minutes (assuming it isn't a defect on your particular unit).

My apologies, for some reason I read the title as PG27AQDM and not PG27AQN

Basically just running this https://www.testufo.com/ghosting#backgr ... &pursuit=1 for 5 minutes then switching to a fully dark grey picture without any recovery time in between.

Then the pattern separating the UFO's should be faintly visible (similar to the screenshot from my orignal post). This clears over time when watching a video/playing a game, shutting the monitor off for a while or using your jscreenfix.

Thank you.
