And i read somewhere (on the lighting review, an other topic) that the Lightboost is only avaible at 120hz, is it normal ?) is avaible at 144hz ?
XL2420Z availability?

Re: XL2420Z availability?
Disappointing! I've been looking to purchase two of these on release day here in the UK if the colours are better than the ASUS or AOC 144hz panels. It's a shame about the firmware bug.
Is there any news from BenQ about when these will start shipping without the bug? As they're not available here in the UK yet I wonder if all UK models will have the updated firmware? Or is that just wishful thinking?
edit: The BenQ EU store is selling them at a great price! (The same price as the XL2420T is in most online stores!). I'd hit the buy button if I knew the firmware had been updated

Cheif mentioned that it supports strobing from 75hz to 144hz in 1hz increments. I think you need something like the toastyX CRU at least. He mentioned a utility that works with the latest firmware (the one that will be shipping in march apparently)jeffk wrote:OkSo i dont understand what he is trying to say about 75 and 144hz.

Re: XL2420Z availability?
Got my monitor yesterday, I was super excited to hook it up. This is my first gaming monitor and I choose to go with BenQ because of what was promised with the XL2420Z but mine has the firmware bug as well. I'm really disappointed and it's kind of disheartening. I'm going to call BenQ on Monday to see if I can get a replacement sent out to me and I can return this one, I ordered it via Beach Audio on Amazon's website before Amazon had it in stock. I have terrible luck when it comes to returning things and customer service. Hopefully they will be understanding and can get a replacement to me without having to go through loopholes and being without a monitor for a month, as these places tend to do.
What a mess.
What a mess.

As far as I know, the replacment firmware is just only about to ship and it takes time. You may want to wait until late February or early March at this stage.motorde wrote:I'm going to call BenQ on Monday to see if I can get a replacement sent out to me and I can return this one, I ordered it via Beach Audio on Amazon's website before Amazon had it in stock. Re: XL2420Z availability?
Ok so mine finally came in. It's January 2014 mfg date and does have the bug. That's not my concern right now. I'm coming from a 60hz 24" dell I've been using for years and while I'm in game I really don't notice that much of a difference. I'm using an nvidia 760 card. Resolution is set to 144hz. It detects in game fine.
Turning on blur reduction just makes everything dark which I guess is to be expected? I was just hoping to see a big difference in moving and clarity. Am I just blind. I don't know.
The colors were horrible as a few have said. And I just can't get the brightness and contrast to look as good as the dell. I may just send it back due to the bug and wait for a gsync monitor I guess. Just disappointed.

FWIW I changed over to a display port cable so I could use both the new and old monitor. It improved the color somewhat. I'm not sure why that would be, but it did make a difference.

Re: XL2420Z availability?
Darkening of screen is normal with most strobe backlight technologies including LightBoost, ULMB, Turbo240, and BENQ Blur Reduction. Turbo240 darkens the least, but costs a lot more (EIZO FG2421 in http://www.blurbusters.com/faq/120hz-monitors)rajatt wrote:Ok so mine finally came in. To see the motion clarity difference, view http://www.testufo.com/photo (at 120fps in Chrome, full Windows mode, not Basic mode) while turning ON/OFF BENQ Blur Reduction or another strobe backlight.
To best notice the motion clarity benefits in games with a low persistence monitor (strobe backlight):
1. Use a good 1000Hz gaming mouse to prevent mouse microstutters from interfering
2. Use framerate = refreshrate = stroberate .... strobing won't benefit if your framerate is far lower than refresh rate.
3. Fast motion, such as during panning/strafing/turning.
