Trying to figure out the difference between FreeSync and HDMI VRR.

Hello!

As the title suggests, I'm very confused about FreeSync and VRR over HDMI.

1. Are they both the same technologies? If not, is one worse than the other?

2. Does my RX570 supports HDMI VRR? It seems like HDMI VRR is only supported by HDMI 2.1 while my GPU only supports HDMI 2.0.

3. Does FreeSync only works with Display Port? For example, if I upgrade my GPU with an RX6700XT - which supports HDMI 2.1 - and connect an HDMI 2.1 monitor with it via HDMI, would I be using FreeSync or HDMI VRR?

4. Is VRR support mandatory with HDMI 2.1?

5. I'm also interested in either a PS5 Digital or an Xbox Series S. Would I be able to connect a FreeSync only with both of them, assuming the monitor is only HDMI 2.0 compatible?

All of these are compatible:

• FreeSync
• HDMI VRR
• G-SYNC Compatible
• VESA Adaptive Sync

This one is different: G-SYNC "Native"

The biggest confusion is between G-SYNC Compatible (which is an NVIDIA certification of VESA Adaptive Sync) and G-SYNC Native (proprietary implementation that historically only works with NVIDIA GPUs)
