3D Enabled but lightboost is still locked? [ACER GN246HL]
3D Enabled but lightboost is still locked? [ACER GN246HL]
I picked up a new monitor last week to move up from 60HZ and I discovered 2D lightboost tonight and decided to give it a go. My monitor does come with lightboost, I have a slider in my OSD. I followed the guide and got it all setup with CRU but while my monitor says 3D is enabled my lightboost slider is still locked. What's going on here? I even tried loading up a 3D vision ready game and forcing it on the desktop with the registry hack but still no luck.

Hello,
Which LightBoost HOWTO method did you follow?
Acer GN246HL does not support ToastyX Strobelight at this time, but other LightBoost hacks are possible (e.g. EDID override).
Are you sure LightBoost is enabled? It is possible LightBoost is not enabled at all. Did you see a large reduction in brightness and sudden improvement in motion clarity (e.g. in motion tests such as www.testufo.com/photo )?

Custom resolution utility. I didn't use strobelight as I already saw it doesn't support my monitor.Which LightBoost HOWTO method did you follow?
It's not. My screen showed me a notification that NVIDIA 3D is active but in my OSD the lightboost slider is still locked. Are you sure LightBoost is enabled?
My brightness did drop but there's no way for me to tell motion clarity if the lightboost slider is locked. I have nothing to compare too.Did you see a large reduction in brightness and sudden improvement in motion clarity

Alright did some more tests. Apparently it IS working but its locked to 10%. Why that is I don't know but it's good enough for me. Brightness is horrendous though.

Try adjusting strobe brightness using ToastyX Strobelight. Strobelight won't be able to initialize, but now that it's initialized, Strobelight should now start up -- and still allow you to turn LightBoost ON/OFF with Strobelight, as well as hopefully adjust LightBoost brightness.

Yep it did, and the brightness setting is now working.
Not seeing any difference in motion blur though. Seems exactly the same at 10% and 100%. Not that this is a bad thing, UFO is very crisp and clear with slight flicker but that's to be expected. Thanks for the help.

LightBoost 10% versus 100% is extremely subtle, see Photos: LightBoost 10% vs 50% vs 100%TideX wrote:Not seeing any difference in motion blur though. Seems exactly the same at 10% and 100%. You need fast motionspeeds, on ultrafine details, such as 2000 pixels/second or 3000 pixels/second to see the difference. A good example is TestUFO Panning Map Test. In this case, you can see crisper text at lower LightBoost % settings.
In practice, leaving at LightBoost 100% is good enough for most people, as the brightness loss is rather severe at lower % settings, unless playing in a cave at night.

Re: 3D Enabled but lightboost is still locked? [ACER GN246HL
Hey,
I've also got the same monitor (Acer GN246HL) and I also tried to enable lightboost with the howtoguide. I managed to enable 3D (screen got darker etc.) but the lightboost slider stayed locked. Motion Blur was unaffected. So that method didn't really pan out (CRU).
So I was wondering if there's any chance that the ToastyX Strobelight could be updated to support this particular monitor in the future? The EDID override method seems a bit too hc for me.

One would need to ship a loaner Acer GN246HL to ToastyX at http://www.monitortests.com to verify if he can update Strobelight to support it.
