Hey guys this is my first post here. Building a new pc which meant upgrading my old monitor. I was on a AOC 144hz VA panel and I just ordered this monitor. Can't find many reviews anywhere. Was wondering if anyone knew the best settings for it? I play mostly competitve games like Valorant and such. The 310 hz caught my attention, but I know sometimes the overclock can cause more issues than benefits.

Just got this one a few days ago. Coming from an old VG279Q (2019 ips panel) this is a huge upgrade, so far I'm blown away by its ELMB sync which I was afraid would be some sort of a compromise, but I'm not seeing any downsides yet. There are a few quirks that I've noticed, however, namely if you try to change contrast or some other image setting while ELMB sync is active, there is flickering until you deactivate and reactivate the feature.
There is no way to control ELMB sync brightness through the menu, but I've found a workaround which I'm happy to share:
1. Configure the settings to your liking, then enable ELMB sync
2. Go to MyFavorite in the menu, save the settings as one of the two "customized settings" profiles.
3. Turn off ELMB sync
4. Go to customized settings and load the profile you've saved

Enjoy ELMB sync at a different brightness compared to the one the screen locks itself into if you simply toggle the feature through the Gaming menu.

As for the best competitive settings... I mainly play Apex Legends, and I've been experimenting with the following configuration, which is in no way a guideline, but here you go, in no particular order:

Gamevisual: User
ELMB Setup: ELMB-Sync enabled
Variable Overdrive: 16
Brightness: 50
Contrast: 80
Display Color Space: Wide Gamut
Color temp: 6500k
All saturation at the default 50
Gamma: 2.4 or 2.6
Shadow Boost: Level 3

What I've found is that the combination of dark gamma and high shadow boost kind of normalises the image without either eliminating deep blacks, oversaturating bright spots, or washing out the colours (snow on World's Edge doesn't blind you, and dark interiors are perfectly visible)

Now, to the one other quirk I've noticed with this monitor. Windows seems to have trouble rendering ClearType at 300hz and 310hz, because on a large number of websites including BlurBusters forums you get faint artifacts around some of the letters. Switching focus makes them invisible, so does using the Snipping tool, although once you begin snipping the area where artifacts are present, they only come back at certain sizes of the snip. Disabling ClearType eliminates them entirely. Weird stuff. UPD: setting ClearType to grayscale via BetterClearTypeTuner also eliminates the artifacting.

I saw this monitor selling at 220$ but in EU is 350e...I want buy this but paying all that much for 1080p its crazy nowadays.
Should I just go for the 259qm instead?

I personally don't regret skipping the 259qm or 259qm1a for this one.

HI Synth, if i already have the vg259qm is a good idea sell it and buy the XG259CMS? here the cms is 120 dollars more than the 259qm.

Not a good idea, opt for 1,5x or 2x refresh rate upgrades or significant PPD upgrades (24" 1440p or better) at same or better refresh rate
Take a look at 360–480hz OLED, XL2566X+, XL2586x or upcoming new generation panels instead.
The new Q25G4S (24.5" 300Hz 1440p) is also a better option, at £239.
It's coming out in June 2025.

I agree with kyube here, it won't be much of an upgrade at all. If you're keen on trying out different panels for the fun of it, sure, sidegrade to your heart's content, but for an extra $120 it's not worth the hassle.

Gotcha, thanks guys, i think im gonna end buying the 380hz version of asus..xg259qns.. for 200 dollars more, dont like TN panels, in my country the aw2523hf is pretty cheap right know but i was reading that the alienware has ghosting problems and bad response times, oled is out of the question, 27 inches is too big for me.

All IPS ≥360hz have "bad" G2G response times compared to some TN's (e.g. XL2566K & newer BenQ E-TN's), some VA's (27G1S) or OLED (perfect G2G RT's for <1000Hz displays, therefore only “limited” by MPRT / refresh rate & processing delay)
The XG259QNS won't be that much different compared to the AW2523HF in terms of response times.
