Hey all,

I'm currently looking for a new monitor to replace my XG2431. It has served me well, but has unfortunately developed horizontal scanlines across the entire panel. Thankfully, they're somewhat faint and pretty easy to ignore for now, but that tells me the display is probably on its way out. I'm outside of the warranty period also.

I haven't paid any attention to the monitor industry since buying this monitor. All the options available now are a bit overwhelming, especially with OLED on the scene. However, I'm struggling to find anything that seems like a good replacement for the XG2431. I strongly prefer 1080p 24 inch monitors over anything else. I play a mixture of games, anything from extremely fast competitive arena fps (Quake and similar titles) to more modern military style shooters like COD/Warzone/DMZ.

I've been extremely happy with the XG2431's performance and motion clarity, especially because I exclusively play in a dark room with a lamp facing the wall behind the monitor. I don't need a super bright display, but things like input lag, response time, and motion clarity are very important to me. I also love that it's an IPS panel for the superior colors and viewing angles over TN.

Basically, I'm asking if there's anything available (or on the horizon) that dethrones this thing within my criteria or if I should just buy another one.

If you're looking for the best strobed experience possible apart from the XG2431, then definitely go for the XL2566K.
It can do strobing without any crosstalk in the 100-240hz range and you can use the Blurbusters strobing utility with it, allowing for fine granular control.
I haven't seen whether XL2566X+ (new 400hz panel) can rival it yet, so I'll refrain from recommending it.

OLED BFI can only go as low as the max refresh rate, hence it is useless for emulating CRT-like motion clarity.
XL2566K and XG2431 can do sub 0.5ms MPRT strobing, which is "2000hz effective motion clarity" (NVidia term)

Yep, XG272 OLED can only strobe at most 4.2ms persistance at 60hz, which is the same as 240hz native, and while that is still miles better than regular 60hz, the loss of brightness makes things very rough. Maybe eventually this will change.

Then he should consider the Asus 480hz OLED, it has BFI at 120hz and 240hz.

The PG27AQDP cannot reach the MPRT that the XG2431 can during strobing.

108 nits @ 0.8ms MPRT in 60-165hz crosstalk-less range (great for retro) vs ~200nits @ 240hz mode (~2ms MPRT) && 120hz (~4.17ms MPRT)

Quite a stark difference in clarity, if you ask me.

BFI also adds display lag, as per TFTCentral review:

With ELMB / BFI enabled and the screen running at 240Hz we measured around 4 – 5ms of lag, so it’s a little higher in that mode.

I'd argue the XG2431 and XL2566K are the best strobed display experience post-CRT era, up to date. At least from the thoroughly tested displays.
No information on 1440p LCD models (such as the Q24G2A or MAG274QRF-QD)

Im curious. Did the apparently low contrast ratio not bother you?

We have some positive news with regards to the BenQ monitor with DYAC

Since those monitors cannot do 60HZ strobe for console games, fighting games, retro games etc

AMD has AFMF 2 which is driver based frame generation you get double FPS in any game so 120 FPS for fighting games, it adds 10ms lag which cannot really be detected by 99.9% of humans anyways.

AFMF 2 is the best frame generation technology that currently exists and unlike DLSS Frame Generation which is limited to a handful of select games, AFMF 2 will work on anything, so this means you can take advantage of the ZOwie monitors DYAC modes

Lossless_Scaling exists but requires significantly more GPU power than AFMF 2 and has higher input delay "5ms"

Maybe, but everything else is better and the clarity is close enough. Not to mention it's not an unreliable POS:
