Jitter and Dropped Frames

Post by pracc » 26 Dec 2024, 16:56

Hello Friends!

for a long time, I'm facing desyncs, sluggish gameplay, input lag, and all that stuff with all my gaming setups. Build several gaming PCs without any success to fix my problems. In my case, at night from 1 till 7-8 am, it's much better.

After some research, and the rabbit hole of the "Niche Issues," I dug deeper inside my internet connection and started to measure. Suddenly I find out that my connection has horrible jitter on the upstream only, mainly from late morning till 1 am. Also i´m facing a constant Paket loss ( 200-300 Pakets lost in Valorant Per Match). Valorant itself dont show me any instabilities, and my ping in the scoreboard always remained the same, nothing suspicious in all games. until i start network parameter displays.

After all that, I called my cable-coax ISP (Vodafone Business), and after 1,5 months of continuous calls from my side, they started to measure my connection. They confirmed to me that every 18 ping are lost?! At any time of day. Unfortunately, they did not comment on the jitter.
In the end they suggested that I be allowed to terminate the contract because they "cannot" fix the problem.

FTTH (XGS-PON) is currently being rolled out in the town where I live. Unfortunately, it will take until mid-2025 (according to the construction company). So I'm expecting it to be the end of 2025.

My question is, can a permanent jitter every second (~15 to 40 ms), sometimes up to 100 ms, and packet loss cause these symptoms on a constant level? And how could I not notice this for the last few years? Crazy.

My setup:

B650E Taichi Lite
AMD 7800x3d
Nvidia RTX 3070
DDR5 32GB Dual 6000mhz
Viewsonic XG2431 Monitor

Did you test the game without Internet connection? I think because of your log way to this message, you did. All good? Or lag still exist

Hello, yeah, there is no desync in CS2 when I unplug the Ethernet cable and play versus bots. The mouse feels a bit heavy when I play with 10 bots local because of the heavy workload i guess?!. But the bots are dying instand and smooth, nothing compared to online. When i compare offline vs online in a bot gameplay, even the bots on deathmath servers "prefireing" me like crazy on the same difficulty level (bot_difficulty 5).

Maybe that would also explain why I have a much better gaming experience with sync technologies (fast sync, gsync etc.). The mouse is a bit spongier, but it just works much better overall. Does this somehow "smoothes out the Jitter?!".

I'm also using a vodafone connection and it's working properly.

I am sure that it depends on the segment. For me, the jitter occurs at the 1st and 2nd hop. It also depends on how busy the shared line is. Then there are new headends in many areas that are poorly configured.
