Frametime spikes

Post by icei30y » 27 May 2025, 04:42

Hello guys!

A year ago I built a PC (U can see the components below), and I have frametime spikes in all games, even just in windows. I went down the rabbithole and tried everything, and I'm starting to give up and I don't know who can I turn to. I understand that modern games can stutter but I don't think every game should.

I get stutters on:

Black ops 6

Mafia (1) Definitive edition

Insurgency Sandstorm

Spider-Man Miles Morales

Need for Speed Unbound

RuneScape Dragonwilds

Dead by Daylight

Sometimes even in CS2 and Valorant and also in OSU

The list of what I tried already would be long as hell, so if u guys have an idea what should I try please feel free to reply and I will tell you that I tried that or not and if not I will let u know it fixed my problem or it still present.

My build:

MSI B650 MAG Tomahawk Wifi

Ryzen 7800X3D (I even type here the cooler which is a Dark Rock Pro 5)

4080 Super

Corsair 2x16GB 6000Mhz CL30

Corsair RM850x Shift

WD SN850X 1TB

WD SN850X 4TB

Im playing on 1440p 165hz with GSYNC. I would appriciate any idea.

(also I have a clip where u could see the spikes im having but im not sure how could I post it here since links are not acceptable and the file size is large.)

Are you by any chance monitoring the GPU Power in something like RTSS / Afterburner? That brought down my performance on a somewhat similar system (same GPU, 5800X3D)
5800X3D | 4080S | 64GB RAM | AW3423DWF

BIOS settings (EXPO, PBO, etc.), Windows installation (Defender, WinUpdate, GPU driver choice, background app sw hogging CPU cycles etc.) are the #1 cause of macrostuttering.
Refer to the "Input Lag" section, where similar experiences have been shared and the mentioned troubleshooting steps in those topics.
