Hi everyone, i've known about this very useful website for years but only now decided to register.
So, i have a mid-high end pc ( Ryzen 98003DX, Nvidia 4070 Ti, 32GB of 6000mhz CL28 RAM) and a few days ago i ordered an ASUS OLED XG27ACDMS monitor (1440p 280hz), i want to have low latency playing Halo MCC, which doesn't support Nvidia reflex and has an internal FPS limiter of 240fps max, even though the actual engine cap is 1000 for older games and ~520 for the most recent ones or maybe i'm just cpu limited in the newer games of the collection.
It seems i have the following options:
1- run the game at uncapped fps ( my rig is capable of at least 450-500 fairly stable FPS)
2- run the game at 240 FPS using the internal FPS limiter
3- use Gsync and Vsync at the same time, FPS will be capped automatically a bit below 280 FPS ( but i know Vsync adds a bit of latency)
4- use the NVIDIA control panel to cap FPS at ~ 550 FPS ( newer games of the collection will run at 460-500)
My gpu doesn't run above 70-75% unless i play older games on uncapped fps, at 900 fps and more the usage climbs to 98%, which is bad for latency right?
Should i use Nvidia Ultra Low Latency Mode as well? What do you think is the best option?
Best way to reduce absolute/total input lag in my case?

Re: Best way to reduce absolute/total input lag in my case?
So the general consenses on this is:
Absolut lowest input latency:
In-game:
-Disable VSync
-Disable frame cap
NVIDIA Control Panel:
-G-Sync: OFF (for pure lowest latency)
-VSync: OFF
-Low Latency Mode: ON (NOT Ultra)
-FPS Cap (IMPORTANT):
-Use RTSS or NVCP to cap at slightly lower than your Monitors refresh rate so in your case Around: ~ 274 to 278 FPS
-(maybe use No scaling mode for absolute lowest input lag)
if you want a hybrid smooth + low latency setup:
In-game:
-Disable VSync
-Disable frame cap
-(if avaylable in game) nvidia low latency mode: ON (Not On+Boost)
NVIDIA Control Panel:
-G-Sync: ON
-VSync: ON (NVCP only)
-FPS cap: ~260–270 FPS (just below 280 Hz)
-Low Latency Mode: ON (Not Ultra)
This is the “pro esports compromise”
Slightly higher latency
Much smoother frametimes
Hope this helps.

Re: Best way to reduce absolute/total input lag in my case?
I like to have v-sync on, also , Nvidia profile inspector i use Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames -1 Ultra Low Latency - CPL state - Ultra , Ultra Low Latency -Enabled-On , and with games like Battlefield 6, or Black ops 7 i have the frames uncapped. I seem to get the best performance and latency with those settings. On a 240hz OLED , 5090 Displayport 2.1 and DisplayID 2 set in CRU

G sync+ v sync +LLM on/ultra should make auto cap so no extra larancy as far i know

Thank you for the tips, i have 2 more questions:TheClowns5 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2026, 23:30

First, why is it important to cap the framerate specifically BELOW your monitor refresh rate? Why not cap it at 450-500 fps ? Since you're not using Gsync or Vsync anyways i don't see the reason for capping below the refresh rate...
And why Nvidia LLM ON but not ultra?
I will try both your suggestions since good frametimes are also important to me ( better tracking and less eyestrain )
Yeah i don't like the idea of buying a 280hz monitor and then capping to 240fps using the in-game limiter, the idea leaves a sore taste in my mouthG sync+ v sync +LLM on/ultra should make auto cap so no extra larancy as far i know
