EMI or Desync?

This subforum is for advanced users only. This separate area is for niche or unexpected lag issues such as electromagnetic interference (EMI, EMF, electrical, radiofrequency, etc). Interference of all kinds (wired, wireless, external, internal, environment, bad component) can cause error-correction (ECC) latencies like a bad modem connection, except internally in a circuit. ECC = retransmits = lag. Troubleshooting may require university degree. Your lag issue is likely not EMI.

EMI or Desync?
Hey, I need help figuring out if this is an EMI issue or not. I have this desync/input lag problem where I can hardly control any gun recoil—hitting enemies is legitimately difficult, and I lose about 95% of my fights. On top of that, the audio becomes completely broken—key sounds don’t play on my headset, and a lot of surround sound I hear in stream POVs simply doesn’t exist.
For most days of the month—like 3/4—I have this issue. But there are days where the issue is completely gone. On those rare days, I can literally steamroll people, one clip enemies without any problems, and the audio is perfect.
I’ve tried two different PCs, different mice, keyboards, and headsets—none of it helps. I’ve reinstalled Windows multiple times and updated all my drivers, but I’ve never been able to maintain that “normal” feeling I get on those rare good days.

I have tried 3 different PSUs lol, 2 gold and 1 platinum-rated 850 watt.

Re: EMI or Desync?
Gold/platinum rating is not important at all, the important things are transient response on 5V and 3.3v rails, low ripple, active PFC quality, capacitors quality, DC-to-DC build quality..."platinum" is just an efficiency rating for saving money and nothing else, it makes no difference for bad electrical input.

Can we get some budget options?MK92 wrote: ↑31 Mar 2026, 08:36Gold/platinum rating is not important at all, the important things are transient response on 5V and 3.3v rails, low ripple, active PFC quality, capacitors quality, DC-to-DC build quality..."platinum" is just an efficiency rating for saving money and nothing else, it makes no difference for bad electrical input.

Re: EMI or Desync?
DeepCool PSUs are actually good at handling bad electricity, but if the problem is shared neutral / impedance then it won't help, not even a PSU for 600€ would help in that case

DeepCool Gamer Storm PN1200-M R It's around 150 euros for me. I just thought there are better options at this price quality wise, obviously less W.

Re: EMI or Desync?
Try PN850M 850W for about 110€, you don't need more wattage than that unless you have rtx 5090
