Just got an Acer XB280HK and love it. Except, when used in g-sync mode, the monitor fails after 5-10 minutes of gaming. The displayed image freezes and fades to white over the course of about 1 second. It stays full white even if the displayport cable is unplugged and replugged or the front power button is used to turn it off and then on. The only fix I've found is to unplug the monitor's power or use the monitor's power switch in the rear to toggle it on and off (which games don't tend to handle well).

Anyway, does that sound familiar to anyone? I've tried multiple DP 1.2 cables and multiple ports on the geforce 980. Hoping to hear about a software solution before sending it back to newegg.

No, that sounds like a defective unit, especially if you use the cable that comes with it.

Btw this monitor, is there working 1080p (no interpolation) resolution with gsync or only 2160p with gsync? (probably like in others [rog swift] only one resolution can work with gsync with is I think a significant minus of this tech..).

I ran a game in 1080p and the monitor reported being in 3840x2160 g-sync mode. Not sure exactly what you mean about interpolation - the game wasn't surrounded by a black frame and did fill the entire monitor.

Interestingly, the monitor didn't fail under those conditions. That was likely because g-sync reverted to v-sync because of a high framerate though.

There are no LCD monitors without interpolation when using non-native resolutions. G-Sync or not, doesn't matter. Only CRTs do without interpolation.

So when you turn the monitor back on the game is still there working?

If not.. I am willing to bet its your video card overheating. Most likely you weren't stressing out the card enough on 1080. You should be able to turn your monitor off and on while gaming with no problems.

If you want to test in 1080, you have to set it to 1080 in the game's settings, not windows.

He said that using the front power button--what we're talking about here, doesn't fix the corruption on his monitor. He has to actually -unplug- the mains (cut AC power), which pressing the power button does not do.

The reason games don't 'handle' that very well is it's like HDMI hotplug...it probably has hotplug in displayport also, so when the screen is disconnected/ac off, it acts like a hardware device is removed, so games can lose focus and freeze since theres no longer an active display information.

Was it a defective unit or what was the cause of this?

Not true. I can play with gsync activated in 1080 with my rog swift.
