The 2730Z is a 1440p panel, so the 'old' VT tweaks (1350 / 1500 / 1502) will not apply the same way here.
The max VT available for the 2420z/2411z/2720z was 1502. 1500 was used to avoid some "issues" where 1502 could cause strobing stuttering errors or pulsating backlights in some rare cases.

On a 1440p panel, the VT equivalent of 1500, is 2000.
So we need some brave person to test how the 2730Z will reply to Vertical Total tweaks, how it improves the strobe crosstalk, and at what point you will get an out of range signal.

First, can you please find out, in DVI mode (just for a test), what the highest refresh rate available for native resolution will be at 2560x1440? Someone said 60 hz. Also test lower resolutions like 1920x1080 (just to see if 120/144/100 hz will work).

Then it's time for VT Tweaks at native resolution in DP mode (2560x1440@100 or @120 hz)

First, get this patcher and use it.

Then run CRU and create a custom 100 or 120hz manual resolution.
You should be able to create a manual timing of 2560x1440.
Change the default vertical total (for now) to 2000.

DO NOT USE the same refresh rate as the one you are editing. Start at 60hz on the desktop so you don't edit the same refresh rate you are currently using.

Start off with a 2000 VT at 100 hz for now. In the OSD, please set AREA to 000 before doing this. (in the blur reduction area)

Make sure you have the testufo alien invasion running BEFORE making the changes. Test it at 100 or 120hz before making any edits first.

What you are looking for is distance in strobe crosstalk between the top and bottom of the screen (thick double image). Using a high vertical total should move the BOTTOM strobe crosstalk further down or OFF the bottom of the screen. With a default vertical total, the bottom side crosstalk strobe settling errors should be around the lower 1/3 of the screen. It's important to use an AREA setting (aka "strobe phase" of 000) of 0, when doing these tests.

(you can enter the service menu by powering off the screen, holding MENU for 5 seconds, then pressing power on while holding the menu button).

After applying the VT tweak and closing CRU, run the driver restarter on the CRU page.
Then set to 100 hz or whichever refreshrate you changed.

and watch for real time changes in the strobe pulse position at the bottom.

If you get an out of range error at 2000. back off to 1500 and then move upwards 50 at a time until you find the limits.
When you find the absolute limit, post back on how much the maximum VT Tweak improved or pushed the bottom area strobe crosstalk setting errors off the screen.

*IF YOU DO NOT GET AN OUT OF RANGE ERROR, BUT YOU START GETTING 'SPARKLES' ON THE SCREEN, try lowering the Horizontal total a little so it reduces the pixel clock. There may be a limit to how much bandwidth the cable can handle.

Do the same for 120hz. 144 hz will probably not allow any custom timings at all.

I just got my XL2730Z, very happy with the low motion blur and stock settings, i would be hesitant to try this stuff without really knowing what im doing for fear of wrecking my new monitor.

When running the full screen UFO test on stock settings 144hz FPS Mode, Instant Mode, and Blur Reduction on i notice very little ghosting/blur in the middle 1/3 of the screen, but the top and bottom have a little bit more noticeable.

I play CSGO and BF4, instantly increased my K:D and its much more enjoyable as well as easier on the eyes when i can clearly follow the target.

What will these experiments improve? will it reduce ghosting? I don't see how it could get much better than this, reminds me of the CRT days almost.

Plex, it's completely impossible to wreck your monitor by testing VT tweaks. The MOST that will happen is an out of range signal. We've been using VT tweaks on the older Z series for over a year with no problems :)

The entire purpose of the VT Tweaks is to reduce the ghosting (Mainly at the BOTTOM of the screen). What VT tweaks actually do is give the monitor more time to complete a pixel transition during strobing. Since the panel refreshes from top to bottom, what this in effect does is push the BOTTOM area ghosting further DOWN the screen and with a high VT tweak, it pushes it OFF the screen. The drawback is that you're increasing the Vertical Total which thus increases the pixel clock. Its the quality of the DP or DVI cable which determines if a higher clock will work without corruption or not.

Masterotaku suggested that the max VT may be around 2000, because of the increase in pixel size width vs an 1080p monitor (max VT 1500/1502).
