Hi Everyone,
So there are a few monitors I am looking at... The computer is primarily used for gaming and watching movies/series. I use Madvr + MPC (or MPDN) for watching Movies/Series, and I use SVP to do motion-interpolation to decrease motion-blur and increase clarity.
I have a Gigabyte HD7970 OC as my GPU for Madvr (movies/series) + Gaming (it's decent, but I'll probably be upgrading at the end of the year), and I also have a Core i7 4790K @ 4.7Ghz used primarily to power SVP's highest settings.
My main monitor is an IPS 27" Yamakasi Catleap Q270 @ 2560x1440 @ 60Hz but it has had issues and stopped working recently, so I'm currently using an Acer X233H (absolutely horrible monitor, I found it in the shed).
So now that you know the above, I have a few monitors in mind, you can have a look at what other monitors these guys have and suggest something else:
Samsung S32E590C 31.5" Curved WS LED Monitor (Comes out May 13th - in a few days).

The above monitor is my primary candidate at the moment because it's 32", so it's a nice upgrade from my 27" Monitor and should be great for movies/series. It has a 4ms response time, but what is pushing me towards purchasing it... is the fact that it has 5000:1 Static Contrast Ratio (I believe this should make blacks look more black, and whites whiter). There's no reviews for it yet, and I believe this monitor has great potential.
Asus PB287Q 28" 4K UHD WS 1MS Height Adjustable LED Monitor
https://www.ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?In ... mId=615339
This is surprising me, as it claims to be a 1ms response time monitor with 4K resolution and 60Hz, at that price? I am confused. There's 8ms and 12ms response time monitors @ 4K from Asus that cost more... much more (It's not an IPS Monitor? Is that why?). The downside to this, is that my 7970 won't be strong enough to power games, or movies I believe with Madvr (upscaling to 1080p --> 4K is too much for my card I think).
BenQ XL2720Z 27" Full HD WS 1MS 144Hz LED Monitor
https://www.ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?In ... mId=614199
Not much to say here, 1ms response time, 144Hz... But probably won't be great for movies (worse viewing angles and colours)... Only I'm not sure whether running SVP @ 144FPS (Making movies run at 144fps) would reduce motion-blur even more... I am tempted to try it, but I'm not going to waste $700 to check whether or not it makes a massive difference running a movie at 60FPS or @ 144FPS (It's not a game after all). There's also the freesync version of this for an extra $100, but I am not 100% sure anymore whether I am going nVidia or AMD (I have been a long-term AMD User... for over a decade, but I am thinking of switching to the green-side).

Just FYI, SVP wont predict what the edges of movies looks like so it crops the movies so that when it does interpolation it has data on the sides it can work with. So if you get the 144hz for movies you wont get the full movie screen.

For movies and gaming the best choice is a 21:9 monitor. As big as you can afford and preferably with freesync.
No black bars for movies, and the gaming immersion will be unmatched.
There are lots of 21:9`s but a few gaming grade ones.
I suggest one of the following:
LG 29um67 - 29inch, IPS, 2560x1080, 75hz, freesync
LG 34um67 - 34inch, IPS, 2560x1080, 75hz, freesync
Acer xr341ck - 34inch, IPS, 3440x1440, 75hz, freesync
Acer xr341cka - 34inch, IPS, 3440x1440, 75hz, gsync
Acer z35 - 35inch, VA, 2560x1080?, 144hz, gsync
Benq xr3501 - 35inch, VA, 2560x1080?, 144hz, no?-sync
First two are out. Rest will come in a month or two.

Re: Monitor for watching movies/gaming (Suggestions).
Thanks for the suggestions, but why do I need Freesync or G-Sync? They seem to be expensive, and neither movies nor series would benefit from them? Also isn't 21:9 aspect ratio for 1920x800? Not for actual 1080p content (which is 1920x1080p).Edmond wrote:For movies and gaming the best choice is a 21:9 monitor. As big as you can afford and preferably with freesync. First two are out. I'm 99.99% sure I have that disabled via the SVP Control Panel, why would you ever want to watch movies/series cropped? Maybe you're talking about older versions of SVP, I remember it happening when I first installed it ages ago, but it was added as an option (or I found the option to disable cropping a long time ago).lexlazootin wrote:Just FYI, SVP wont predict what the edges of movies looks like so it crops the movies so that when it does interpolation it has data on the sides it can work with.
