Benq Xl2411Z or Asus VG248QE

Post by Midgard95 » 30 Dec 2015, 11:24

Hello Guys,

A few days ago i got a AOC G4260FQ, which had huge problems with 144hz output, and a very bad reaction time, only with Overdrive on strong it works out a bit, but i got extreme ghosting.

I think i got this problem with this Monitor: http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2465

So now i am looking for a new one. Mostly I play CS:GO competitive , also sometimes other games like Battlefield or other FPS.

I am looking for a Monitor with less ghosting and a good response.

So i am standing between the Benq XL2411Z or Asus VG248QE. I heard the Benq got huge Ghosting, is this right?

Do you also have some other Alternatives and can you say something about the Monitors?

Sry for my bad english at all and thanks allready for an answer.

Benq has more overdrive artifacts than VG248QE (not ghosting, overdrive artifacts) because Benq pushes the overdrive circuit FAR too hard, to lower the input lag to 1ms G2G and Benq does not give us enough overdrive options for a "decent" level.

Asus VG248QE has lower overdrive artifacts because it has more overdrive settings through "Trace Free"; it has 6 levels, 00 (Overdrive off), 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 (100 = Benq's AMA Premium).

Just to show you: Benq's AMA high has MORE overdrive artifacts than Asus 'Tracefree 80.

On Version 3 and 4 firmware on XL2411Z, you can slightly lower the AMA high of blur reduction "off" to CLOSE to Asus trace free 80 (well, closer than it NORMALLY is) by exploiting a few firmware bugs regarding a blur reduction toggle and a profile switch.

On the Benq XL2720Z (for some reason, this ONLY works perfectly to a NICE setting on the XL2720Z, NOT On the XL2420Z or XL2411Z, shame on you, Benq!), if you use the SAME bug/toggle, you can force the AMA high setting to match Asus Trace Free=60 (meaning NO ghosting and NO overdrive artifacts) with blur reduction off.

Some pictures here.

Doing this on the XL2411Z and XL2420Z improves things but only slightly from default settings.
That being said, I would definitely choose the XL2411Z over the VG248QE. But if you can get the XL2720Z instead, you will have even LOWER ghosting artifacts.

Ok thanks, but why you prefer the Benq instead of the Asus?

Benq has built in blur reduction and more gaming and picture modes. Asus only has Lightboost, which was really good back when it was the only backlight strobed monitor, but it completely trashes the colors as you cant use any image adjustments in Lightboost mode.
The Asus is old now. It came out in what, 2013 ?

The only thing the Asus does BETTER than the Benq XL2411Z / XL2420Z is overdrive ghosting in NON Lightboost mode (regular old sample and hold mode). The XL2720Z 27" benq monitor (not the XL2730Z which is the freesync version) can match the Asus perfectly if you use some toggles to change the AMA to undocumented settings. The XL2411Z and XL2420Z cant (as I explained before), but I would still choose the 24" Z monitors over the Vg248.

I own two VG248QE's and a XL2720Z.

Ok thank you ! :D

Well the Problem on the AOC i got before was really that on overdrive strong the Monitor was really unusable. The whole screen got Ghosting, my whole image in CS:GO was changed by every move. I dont know how strong this effect is on the benq

It's much better on the Benq, but it's still high on the XL2411Z and XL2420Z
It's *PERFECT* on the XL2720Z but only if you toggle it. it's high also by default.

I showed you the pictures already in the link I posted so I don't think I need to post them again. I own the XL2720Z.
I do NOT own the XL2411Z but my friend has tested the toggles and they DO improve the overdrive but not nearly as much as the XL2720Z. The XL2720Z becomes perfect (with blur reduction off) and extremely good with blur reduction on, with NO overshoot (inverse) ghosting.

On the XL2411Z it becomes better than before, but not to XL2720Z level, but better than "stock" settings.

You can set this mode by (V3-V4 firmware on XL2411Z and XL2420Z):
First, save "Standard Mode" to a gaming preset 1-3, with blur reduction *OFF*, please.

Then:
1) turn on blur reduction.
2) go to the AMA setting and set it to high. if it's on high, move the slider and move it back to high, or you can press Enter then back, on high (this lowers the blur reduction AMA setting by about 10%).
3) activate the gamer profile you saved previously that has blur reduction disabled. This will apply the -10% AMA reduction to blur reduction disabled and bypass the "default" AMA for blur reduction disabled. Note that blur reduction enabled already has about 20% lower AMA intensity than blur reduction disabled, so you're adding -20% and -10% together.

Sounds confusing but once you've done it once, it's easy as pie.

Disabling blur reduction via the OSD won't work; it will use the 'default' settings if you just 'disable' it directly.

I think i cant use the Lightboost on Asus at all, its a Nvidia Feature, right?

Really thank you, so i think im going with the Benq , hope the Ghosting is ok for me.

Currently I am using a Syncmaster P2450 , which has great response time without Ghosting, but only 60Hz. The AOC i got was really awful.

Lightboost can be activated on VG248QE with ToastyX strobelight regardless of the video card in use. I used it on my AMD card when I still was using my VG248QE's.

Lightboost strobelight exploit was "patched" and doesn't work with Benq XL2411Z and XL2420Z and XL2720Z. Lightboost can still be used on XL2411Z and XL2420Z (if desired) if you have an Nvidia card with the 3d vision drivers; the overdrive ghosting is much lower in Lightboost than in Benq blur reduction mode on the 24" monitors (not the 27") AND lightboost has the "VT 1500" tweak done by accelerated scanout, but you can't adjust the colors and contrast takes a huge nose dive. Kelvins rise to over 10K.

On XL2720Z, the overdrive ghosting of Lightboost is much worse than on the 24" monitors, and doing the "AMA low" trick on the XL2720Z for blur reduction has a MUCH stronger effect than on the 24" Benq monitors, so this makes AMA low +MBR on the XL2720Z look BETTER than Lightboost on this screen.

? Yes we are debating and there is no problem on a forum like this.

@ Falkentyne

What do you think about the LG Electronics 24GM77-B or the Acer GN246HLBbid ?

I just heard very good things about the LG
