XL2411Z & XL2420Z | XL2430T

Post by Nrt » 05 Apr 2016, 06:11

Hello guys. I feel a little stupid starting this topic (even site started mass lagging when i tried to create this topic 1 hour ago  ) and im already waiting for "use google, searching" etc.
I've done a lot looking for compare threads of this 2 monitors but still can't get what i need. English-speaking person is bad from me and its not always easy to understand some technical moments people saying about, but i will ask you to discuss that old thread again.

Which cons of xl2430T you can tell?
I've tried xl2411z, configured strobe and tested it a lot and i liked this monitor at all except exterior, so im looking at xl2420z or 2430T model. I don't think DVI will "die" very soon so DP is not necessary for me. I want 24" and not 2720Z thingy. I can't understand why 2430T's Blur reduction v2 is so bad cuz i've not seen this but i was looking at 2430T until yesterday, when i've checked this site again watching Strobe Utility FAQ i used at 2411z which told me "T monitor? No man, its not supported" and some guys at this forum telling me there are some problems. So much thoughts in my head. Which cons of 2411Z&2420Z and what problems should i expect from 2430T.

Please advice and sorry for another topic about this.
Thanks.

XL2430T has extra picture setting features and more bugs. A lot of people have difficulty getting the same black and white levels on the XL2430T that they can on the XL2720Z and XL2420Z. Changing color vibrance by even one point seems to mess up the black level tremendously. I would not recommend XL2430T.

XL2420Z, XL2720Z and XL2411Z are based on much older firmware base (older lightboost only T series) so the options are more stable.

That's all I can tell you.
You still have to use firmware bugs to improve the horrendous default overdrive settings (even on AMA high).

Thanks for answer! That made me sad cuz 2420Z is out of stock in my country, so its 2411z or 2720z. Maybe i should wait for newer monitors under "Zowie" brend i dunno. Okay. That made me a little more clearly. A little :D

XL2720Z is better because you can lower the overdrive ghosting more on the XL2720Z than you can on the XL2411Z.

In this link is the AMA high you have at default and the reduced AMA high after you abuse the firmware "bug" (setting AMA high after blur reduction is enabled by over-writing the current setting).

http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2795

This is the default AMA high for blur reduction on.

this is the 'bugged' (reduced and improved) AMA high from toggling.

You can still see the inverse ghosting and the primary and secondary ghost. This is from XL2420G classic mode but that's identical to XL2411Z and XL2420Z also.

Doing the same thing on XL2720Z results in this:

1) Default AMA high on XL2720Z, contrast=43
Image

2) AMA high "bugged", toggled overwrite (setting AMA high to overwrite, after you enable blur reduction), contrast=43
Image

3) AMA high bugged, toggled, Contrast reduced to 10, 120hz (the image is dim because of low camera exposure; I wanted to get a perfect image this time).

The choice is yours.

Falkentyne, nice really great work done here. Thats what i've wanted. I will try to find xl2420z somewhere and if no success i will rather wait for something else. But not sure their zowie monitors would be better then this.

Thank you very much!

Remember, the top picture (the one taken by another forum member, although he used "Classic" mode on the XL2420G), is from the XL2411Z/XL2420Z/XL2420G (classic, not gsync).

The pictures I took (the larger ones) below that that are blurrier, since I don't have an expensive camera, are from my XL2720Z.
Remember XL2720Z not XL2420Z.
The overdrive quality and settings for the "toggle bug" are different on the XL2720Z 27" monitor than any of the 24" monitors.

All of the 24" monitors listed use the exact same AUO panel.

Hi,
Trying this on V2 firmware just doubles the amount of AMA applied, making it horrendous.
This 'trick' only works in V3 and newer. This was an undocumented "feature" added to V3. This applies to XL2420Z, XL2411Z and XL2720Z.

you will need to update the firmware.
Linux (Ubuntu) flash drive update instructions are here:

http://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic ... &start=200
All firmwares are still here at the moment, XL2430T has never been dumped though.

https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=%21A ... D90690A202

If it disappears, there's a Russlan Benq FTP site with the firmwares available, I think the login is User/Password but I haven't been there recently. But the onedrive still works.

However more and more people have been corrupting their DVI EDID recently by flashing with Linux's flashrom, when this used to never happen back when the forums were much more active. No one knows why but I suspect it has something to do with UEFI equipped motherboard bioses that are blocking the EDID from being flashed. The Displayport connector has the EDID built into it as part of the DP spec, so that is unaffected. I can still flash with Linux and even BACKFLASH (if I want) without any problems on my Gigabyte P67 (Award bios) motherboard and my laptop (AMI?) Bios.

Even if your DVI EDID Gets corrupted, it's recoverable with the Mstar device.
The Mstar device has a 99% chance of succeeding (I can only recall one failure) but Benq incessantly insists on end users not trying to upgrade the firmware themselves, even though if you insist, and convince them you know what you're doing and you will accept voiding the warranty, they will still send you the firmware raw files.

It will cost you money though, unlike Linux.
cart100 changed names but the same device is still here:
http://www.yoycart.com/Product/52781882 ... ment_tool/

It's the exact same device Benq uses to upgrade monitors in their factory.

Software is on the main blur busters site under DIY V2 upgrade.
I own this device and it works perfectly.

Keep in mind if you DO try the Ubuntu method, the Displayport connection is NOT usable on the XL2420Z V2. it causes link errors and repeated disconnection/reconnect. This was fixed in V4 firmware. So if you DO try Linux, make sure you have another monitor available if the DVI EDID gets corrupted, you will NEED the Mstar device (there's another way to flash the DVI EDID through Linux by edid-rw, but I don't know if this will work on a Benq, as the EDID may be write protected directly and I don't know anyone who has the DVI EDID for a V2 XL*** monitor).

You need V4 or V5.
V3 still has displayport bug issue.
I would not use V3, because eventually you must use displayport in the future.

Please ask for V5. it's the newest.
Otherwise they can put on v4.

A benq site with firmware is ftp://62.141.76.120/Driver/Monitor/MotionBlur_Upgrade/
seems like it's Russlan.
Or you can get it from the link I already posted.

user/password.
