Thinking about getting a TN. Just how bad is it compared to IPS?

Post by RLCSContender* » 17 Apr 2020, 18:42

i've pretty much tried and tested every 240hz IPS monitor and the three that really impressed me are the AHVA variants such as the alienware aw2521hf, MSI Optix mag251rx, and the Asus TuF VG279qm.

I'm looking at the upcoming 240hz ips monitor. Acer Predator XB273GX with 240hz and 0.1 response time on maximum overdrive. However...

I'm thinking about going the TN route to see just how much of an advantage the TOP TN monitors have over the MSI, Asus, and AW. I had the HP omen x 27 but i literally only had it for 3 hours before i returned it due to a dead pixel .

what exactly are the fastest TN monitors right now? Benq? omen x25? nitro xf272?

I just wnat to see how much faster these "top" TNs have over the MSI or Asus and see if the trade off pixel response time and less motion blur is worth it above its poor viewing angles, inaccurate colros, bad color uniformity, etc.

ZOWIE XL2746S to start with? I have just returned it because of dead pixel and while I came back from EIZO FS2735 to it, 1080p on 27'' is indeed a little too much. Clarity in CSGO was awesome though.

And as for TN... I was surprised how much colors you can get from that.

I'm in different boat, I want to pick MSI which isn't available here now at the moment or VG259QM. 25'' model of new ZOWIE is still months away, I guess.

Are you already bored with your 1ms IPS? :)

It would cool to compare with the newer 0.5ms tn panels, such as KD25F, or the ZOWIE XL2746S/ XL2546S (announced, still not on shops) as B3ka suggested

Get the alienware aw2518h. I was using that panel and it was really good.

Well I had the XG270 comparing to the XF272 and I just preferred the TN for CSGO and other competitive games. Sure IPS has clearly better IQ but with tweaks the TN is not bad plus for competitive, its advantages were clear to me in response time, blur, etc.

So, after about two months what conclusion did you come to? Talking to you on your IPS 240hz tier thread, I was curious how well the better TNs stacked up to the likes of the 251rx (which i have coming in a couple days), my main concern being motion blur..
