Help with G-Sync on LG 49NANO85
Help with G-Sync on LG 49NANO85
I bought this 120Hz TV yesterday at BB based on reviews that G-sync will work. I followed all of the Nvidia settings recommendations and ran the Pendulum test, which does show that it's running in G-Sync mode. However, I can not get more than 60FPS in the counter or in any of the games that I'm playing. Any thoughts on what is going on???

1. Disconnect your 60 Hz computer monitor if you have one connecte simultaneously with the 120 Hz TV. Different-Hz multimonitor sometimes creates issues here.joco1968 wrote: ↑22 Sep 2020, 16:32I bought this 120Hz TV yesterday at BB based on reviews that G-sync will work. 2. Doublecheck your TV's refresh rate is configured correctly: Oh No, I'm At The Wrong Refresh Rate as well as True 120Hz From PC to TV.
3. After following steps 1 and 2, does www.testufo.com say 120Hz?

1. Only one monitor (LG TV)
2. Windows 10 shows refresh rate of 119.998Hz Nvidia control panel shows 120Hz
3. testufo shows 120Hz and Pendulum shows G-Sync is on

Re: Help with G-Sync on LG 49NANO85
Some counters are unreliable; try using a different framerate counter instead such as the one built into RTSS -- it has a more accurate on-screen frame rate counter.
Try RTSS cap during G-SYNC, 60fps vs 100fps vs 120fps in a high-framerate game.
If you see reduced motion at 120fps then it is working correctly. Test 118fps RTSS cap and if you're not getting 2 stutters per second, then it means G-SYNC is working to make it look like perfect motion (as if it was 118fps at 118Hz) rather than stuttery 118fps@120Hz.
If RTSS also is limiting itself, then there is some glitch somewhere to track down.

Re: Help with G-Sync on LG 49NANO85
So, I'm not sure how or why this fixed the problem but when I switched the Vertical sync setting in NVCPL to "Use the 3D application setting" I get G-sync at 120Hz. From what I have been reading I'm supposed to set Vsync to "on" along with G-Sync. But, perhaps that is no longer the case with the latest divers... Any explanation for this or is it just a fluke? And does this mean that I'll need to turn on Vsync in the games in order to not experience tearing? I tried it in Control and I can get 90+ FPS with tearing at times and when I check vsync it's smooth but I'm back to 60FPS max. And, yes, I'm using RTSS.
Re: Help with G-Sync on LG 49NANO85
Not sure if this helps, but I am using HDMI as there is no DisplayPort input option. Does that make a difference? According to another thread I read on RTINGS.com these were the instructions:
1 - Leave Freesync disabled Nvidia does not support it over HDMI, that is for AMD GPU’s only.
2 - The TV’s G-Sync range is 20-120Hz, at 4K 60hz output the range will be limited to 40-60Hz so 120hz output is needed to fully utilize it like 1440p 120hz.
3 - HDMI 2.1 is needed for full quality 4K 120hz RGB 444 however it is possible to use a custom HDMI 2.0 4K 120Hz mode at the cost of some image quality,
Go into the NV control panel->resolution section, deselect use color defaults
Pick YCC 420 and 8-bit as output, now (4K) 2160p 120hz should appear in the resolution list
But keep in mind HDR is not supported in this mode only SDR.
For full quality SDR/HDR 4k 120hz a HDMI 2.1 GPU is needed.
4 - LG processes YCC 444 video signals a little better than RGB 444, if sticking with game mode 1440p 120Hz as desktop resolution in the same color section above select YCC 444 instead of RGB.
5 - For optimal results to reduce input lag with G-Sync in the Nvidia control panel manage 3D settings pick
Low latency Mode = Ultra
Max Frame Rate = 119
Leave vsync enabled in games were it is supported
6 - Keep in mind this is not an excellent HDR display but for HDR usage you should select YCC 12/10-bit output in SDR as Windows HDR does not auto switch from 8-bit, however Nvidia & HDMI 2.0 limitations means 12/10-bit are not always select-able depending upon refresh rate & resolution.
For 1440p 120Hz try using YCC 444 10-bit or 12-bit.
For 4K 60hz YCC 420 12-bit.
Turn on Windows HDR mode (settings->display).
In Windows HD color settings under SDR/HDR balance set the slider to 15 to better emulate SDR.
Turn on dynamic tone mapping in the TV WebOS HDR game mode.

Is this set in the NVCPLjoco1968 wrote: ↑23 Sep 2020, 22:42So, I'm not sure how or why this fixed the problem but when I switched the Vertical sync setting in NVCPL to "Use the 3D application setting" I get G-sync at 120Hz. Monitor Technology = G-Sync compatible
Preferred Refresh Rate = Highest Available
Vertical Sync = Use 3D application setting
Thats typically all that is required if desktop is running at 120Hz output and the game has no internal FPS caps it should run up to 120hz with vsync enabled, limiting the FPS in NVCPL for is lowering input lag.
If you have all the above then something weird is going on, try other games that can push high FPS like Doom or Counterstrike.
Re: Help with G-Sync on LG 49NANO85
There is definitely something weird going on... I do have those settings correct. I am currently playing Control and when I play in fullscreen mode the FPS is locked at 60. But, if I go into borderless mode I'm getting 80+ FPS with no tearing (with V-Sync enabled in the game)...
