So many options, please help!

Post by Flipside » 29 Dec 2021, 16:54

Hey, Blur Busters! I've been using an Asus VG248QE since 2014 and I think it's about time to upgrade. The main game that I play/play competitively is Rocket League. Recently I've been feeling that the input lag in my setup isn't that great and I've tried changing everything except my monitor. I've noticed a lot of the Rocket League pros use BenQ monitors, I believe it's the old version of the XL2540K, so I'm leaning towards that one. I've also seen that the Viewsonic XG2431 is recommended by Blurbusters but I'm not sure if it's the best for my use case. One other monitor I've seen recommended for extremely low input lag is the HP Omen X 25. Picture quality and low blur while in motion are still important to me but I would say input lag ranks at the top. I don't use any kind of backlight strobing, however, I'm not against it if it doesn't negatively impact input lag. I would like to remain at 1080p 144hz+ and spend $350 USD give or take a little bit. I'm not really sure what other information I could provide so I suppose I'll leave it at that. If you all could provide me with some recommendations I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you!

Hi

There is no reason to stay on 144Hz if you plan to spend $350. There are good 240Hz options bellow that price point. Higher the refresh rate lower the latency. Also since TNs are old now IPS panel tend to have lower latency. S2522HG is great buy if u can find it bellow $300. Lowest latency is on the 25XV2QF/XV252QF 390Hz. I think in USA you can even find AW2521H 360Hz for $380.

Additional latency reduction advice: maximize your frame rate but keep gpu utilization bellow 95% and ofc vsync off.

The fact is that new IPS panels keep reaching the market and hitting roadmaps, TN has been kind of stagnating, the only improvements are related to already existing TN panels with new revisions, for example the VG258QM has the same panel as the PG258Q but is using a newer revision, same for the 2546K with the good'ol 2546 and 2540K with the 2540.

The only upcoming TN breakthrough will most likely be the 360hz TN that AUO presented in their roadmap.

(correct me if I'm wrong, I remember it was AUO but could also be Innolux or Panda, surely not BOE or LG)

I'm 99% sure that Benq will get their hands on that panel for 360hz Dyac, I'd actually be surprised if it doesn't happen.

Yes. We already see stagnation in TN production and IPS rise. But there are rumors of new TN 360 panel and new one or two IPS (M250HAN03.0, M250HAN03.2, M250HAN03.3). Currently only 3.0 is used. 480Hz should be out in 2023 I believe, supposedly IPS.

Amazon Warehouse sells the Acer 390hz for around 480 euro ( that's where I got mine) https://www.amazon.nl/Acer-XV252QF-vers ... 130&sr=8-1

Thanks for the replies y'all, sorry for the late response. I'm starting to shift my view towards 360hz monitors, however, that BenQ is still on my mind. In regards to that Acer, I could go that route. I do live in the US but I've never had any experience with Acer products nor with Microcenter online shopping. It tells me I have to "reserve" it so that's kind of confusing. I also like the ALIENWARE AW2521H on paper. It would be easy for me to order as well considering it's on Amazon. What should I do?

I'm still looking into monitors after all of these days and I can't decide which to get. Along with low input lag, I've begun to believe that low motion blur is important when playing Rocket League. I just need to settle on a monitor and try it. My two options right now are the BenQ XL2546K for Dyac+ and 240hz or the Alienware AW2521H for 360hz and improved colors along with slightly lesser motion blur tech(from what I have read, correct me if I'm wrong). I have upped my budget to the $450-500 range. I just want to get the best monitor for Rocket League, specifically. I believe it would be relieving to me to know that top pros are using similar monitors. I have been having problems for months feeling like I can't play well on my setup and the one thing I haven't replaced is my old monitor. Maybe if I have the same one as the pro's it will put my mind at ease and make it easier to focus on practice and not my equipment. I don't want to get too long-winded into the input lag topic as I realize this is not the right sub-forum, however, I think it should be taken into consideration that I have been struggling with that for a while. So maybe I should just bite the bullet and try the BenQ and return it if I don't like it. I'm really at a loss for what to do so any genuine help would be awesome.
