please clear these doubts [ULMB vs ELMB]

Ask about motion blur reduction in gaming monitors. Includes ULMB (Ultra Low Motion Blur), NVIDIA LightBoost, ASUS ELMB, BenQ/Zowie DyAc, ToastyX, black frame insertion (BFI), and now framerate-based motion blur reduction (framegen / LSS / etc).

please clear these doubts [ULMB vs ELMB]

Post by jesuadr » 23 Apr 2022, 01:22

1) which technology is better, ulmb from nvidia or elmb from asus? because I have read bad reputations of elmb.
2) which is better; Activate the ULMB from the nvidia panel for each game or let the app choose and activate it from the monitor?
3) can the ulmb lower the fps? because with gsync at 144 fps with my configuration I could keep them, but at 120hz with the ulmb there are drastic drops in fps (game: metro exodus)
4) Does the motion blur in the game settings affect the ms, or does it have nothing to do with it? because in my case most games blur is less noticeable with motion blur activated in game regardless of monitor blur...

1. I'm partial to Blur Busters Approved instead. See www.blurbusters.com/xg2431
2. Either works fine, it depends on the strobe technology. The different brands do it differently.
3. While you can use VSYNC OFF and have no framerate loss during strobing, strobing does looks best at framerate=Hz. Some people perform better at 120fps at 120Hz strobed, than 300fps at 144Hz unstrobed.
4. Motion blur can look like visual input lag. Strobing may sometimes add a tiny lag, but may improve human reaction time more to compensate. Depends on the game. See HOWTO: Using ULMB Beautifully or Competitively
