Re: Do projectors also suffer from persistent blur?
Alas, they do.
Motion blur is always frametime on sample-and-hold displays, and most projectors are not strobed. So, they are no clearer than what Blur Busters Law allows (1ms of frame visibility time = can never be less than 1 pixel of motion blur per 1000 pixels/sec).
Motion blur of strobed = pulsetime
Motion blur of sample and hold = frametime

I wonder how the blur on projectors compare to say OLED

For good projectors, the blur is similar.Supermodel_Evelynn wrote: ↑15 Jan 2024, 20:30aah ok thanks I guess the dream is dead no gaming projector for me

That being said, DLP uses temporal pixel pulsing and a color wheel, which means 240Hz DLP will have more artifacts than 240Hz OLED (pixel noise, contouring artifacts, color wheel, etc).

Re: Do projectors also suffer from persistent blur?
I think if you play on a projector in 3D there is no motion blur or there is less motion blur?
I think 3D changes motion blur because I don't remember seeing any motion blur when I played Playstation 3 games in 3D on an LCD screen back around 2010 I think, which used 3D tech of the type FPR (film-type patterned retarder) and outputted in SBS 3D mode I believe.

Re: Do projectors also suffer from persistent blur?
Frame sequential 3D mode often uses BFI or strobe backlight.
So yes, 3D mode can be a motion blur reduction for 2D.
That's how Blur Busters got popular in 2012, due to NVIDIA 3D LightBoost being repurposed as a 2D motion blur reduction mode. It was the first good desktop-monitor motion blur reduction mode.

Re: Do projectors also suffer from persistent blur?
What about laser projectors?
From this post, I understood that laser projectors would have no persistence blur:

However reading the reply in this thread, i gather that projectors in general have persistence blur, so that would include laser projectors?

Re: Do projectors also suffer from persistent blur?
In theory would a real movie theatre projector not have persistence blur? Like a physical 70mm projector; it's doing a double strobe of a lightbulb after pulling film in front of it. The persistence is probably super low. Granted I imagine real film projectors are rare in cinemas these days but that's the only thing that would get me to see a movie is something like a 70mm imax film.
