Are you using 90 or 100 brightness in HDR? I found that 100 brightness loses a lot of shadow detail and blows out basically every colour, I get that it warns you the PQ curve is affected when you switch to 100, but it really looks bad to the point I don't like using it.
Yeah, I've noticed this too, also seen this before, it was mentioned in one of the reviews at least. It happens even after asus supposedly fixed it in 104. Moreover, some people report that the screen has better peak brightness with 90, than 100.
So I use 90.

What colour temp do you have on HDR? I have mine set to 6500K and it looks way more yellow than what I expect 6500K to look like. 6500K is supposed to be on the cooler side yet I see warm/orange being the more pronounced temp
I was experimenting with my current sdr values and upped them to 85-80-87, so +10 flat for every value, because the original were noticably dimmer. Looks way better than before, despite being a tad dimmer than 6500k preset. As they say if it works, do not fix it, so I'm not going to tweak further, that'll become a neverending search for the ideal picture and I'll spend more time tweaking than actually enjoying games. That thing better left for those who at least own a colorimeter and know what they're doing.
Also 8200k looks not so bad, if you prefer a colder look. It depends on a scene, if it's bright upping color temp will make a little change, if any, and vice versa, if it's dark, colder temp will brighten the scene. In some cases even 7500k is enough to fix orange issues.
That's just me tweaking and comparing stuff in one game for no longer than an hour, but I guess it's more or less universal across the board.
