what do you think an isolation transformer doesdervu wrote: ↑07 Mar 2026, 06:26Sure, but your ground wire is still connected. I have been there already with all those combinations of hardware. Depending on how severe your problem is, it might just take some time to reappear. It can be really a b**** to isolate from this crap.lyar wrote: ↑06 Mar 2026, 21:04I realized an hour ago there was a setting on the UPS to allow an Isolation Transformer to be properly used as an extension, and it massively improved my game. So I'd have to rank it above "Online UPS alone". After more testing of the UPS alone, it was not as good of a result as using both Isolation transforrmer and UPS together connected to my computer with the correct setting turned on.dervu wrote: ↑06 Mar 2026, 17:53Not in every case. I had clearly visible glitching timers in CPU-Z while on UPS unless it was disconnected from socket.lyar wrote: ↑06 Mar 2026, 14:59My game feels very good and very consistent on the Double Conversion UPS with the inverter enabled, so it is fully online and not referencing grid sine wave.
The UPS I purchased was the
V7 1500VA/1300W Online Double Conversion 2U Rack/Tower UPS 120V
I also purchased a Tripp Lite IS1000HG Isolation Transformer and that on its own (pc not connected to UPS) definitely helped but no where near as much as the Online Double Conversion UPS on it's own did.
tried both the Isolation Transformer & Online UPS connected together, and it did not feel very good compared to either one used alone
Wall>UPS>Isolation Transformer>PC
if I could rank it in terms of playability
#1 Online UPS alone : Wall>UPS>PC
#2 Isolation Transformer alone : Wall>Isolation Transformer>PC
#3 Isolation Transformer and Online UPS connected together : Wall>UPS>Isoloation Transformer> PC
i think a good online double conversion UPS is sufficient to play games without moving
Wall>UPS>Monitor --- monitor connected to UPS
UPS>IsoTrans>PC --- PC connected to transformer

"unless it was disconnected from socket"
Do you realize what a double conversion UPS is? It's a minimum $1000 device. It generates it's own sine wave, charges it's battery and runs off the inverter at the same time constantly. It's a completely distinct sine wave then what the grid generates. Compared to a "line interactive ups" that only runs off its endogenous inverter & battery when its unplugged.

its really not that bad with the ups and transformer setup correctlyastroasis wrote: ↑07 Mar 2026, 08:04part of me wants to buy an expensive online ups but i think just saving money and trying to move to a different city is a better choice. Re: cs2 input delay
This is the closest and best I have had my game.
After playing with this setup for the last 3 days I couldn't shake the feeling that something else was still wrong. I thought I had covered everything, even with the UPS unplugged from the wall, running off battery and with the isolation transformer used as an extension, I still had very heavy mouse symptoms ingame when it was essentially off grid. Going into a offline cs2 map with bots my game still felt bad, I was very confused.
It was only until in this offline cs2 map when I unplugged my ethernet cable, it gave me total relief. If I am atleast using my isolation transformer( no ups, it may not even be necessary in this situation ) from the wall I can reliably induce significant relief ingame, just by physically removing the ethernet cable whilst in an offline map. The opposite is true for me too, I can reliably induce the same input lag/heavy mouse feeling just by reconnecting the ethernet cable whilst in the same offline map.
I can go back and forth from fixed/snappy mouse to heavy/floaty mouse as many times as I want just by unplugging and replugging my ethernet cable. I have been able to induce and cure this heavy mouse feeling in offline maps for the last day and a half every single time that I re & unplugged my etherent cable.
When I turn on my motherboard wifi and go into deathmatch my mouse movements and ability to strafe around corners is massively improved. Oddly enough my gameplay online with WIFI is superiior to my gameplay online with Ethernet when using my Isolation Transformer
I believe I am suffering from an ethernet ground loop, which was why going fully off grid (connected to UPS & Isolation transformer, but unplugged from wall) did not help whilst I was still hardwired to a router plugged into the wall sockets across the house.
I am going to try "Fiber optic media conversion" or "Galvanic isolation of the network connection" by turning my connection backinto fiber and then back into ethernet. If this doesn't fix this ethernet ground loop and potentially everything, I don't know what will.

Re: cs2 input delay
When using the transformer in an offline server it stays good as long as the Ethernet cable is unplugged. WIFI is just kind of bad and unplayable online in general, but because of the ground loop, WIFI online is currently better than how my game feels online with Ethernetastroasis wrote: ↑10 Mar 2026, 13:11looks smooth kinda in that clip but does it stay smooth over days?lyar wrote: ↑10 Mar 2026, 08:24as unplayable as WIFI is, i switched to WIFI at halftime before this clip while only using my Tripp Lite isolation transformer

Re: cs2 input delay
feels as good as it did offline, now online with ethernet isolation on a Tripp Lite transformer
confirmed and solved ground loop, now i am facing the limits of the transformer or possibly harmonics as i havent tried the UPS since finding offline was more playable, but its a massive improvement, actually playable and very consistent. even if it isnt perfect
