24.5" 240HZ IPS with high VT support

i'm looking at the MAG251RX does it support custom vertical totals?, if not what monitors do?.


i'll be strobing at 120Hz and a little bit of crosstalk at the bottom and top won't bother me much, can't be worse than my XL2730Z which doesn't support higher VT.

i have no idea when the XL2546S would release and weather ill be able to get it in my country or not, i don't mind making an exception for AUO TN, BenQ lets you tune everything in the service menu anyways, and they have voltage boosted BFI.

the ELITE XG270 would be an instant buy if they made a 24.5" version.

brightness isn't a big issue as long as it can get over 120cd/m2 and is adjustable, i believe my XL2730Z doesn't do voltage boosted BFI and it's plenty bright.

right now every single 240hz IPS from AUO has a light anti-glare coating compared to the medium anti-glare that AUO has on all of their 2nd gen TNs, hopefully they switch the TNs to the same coating as the IPSs.

Vertical totals can be automated in the monitor (scanrate converting TCON/scalers). The job is to speed up the horizontal scan rate (refresh faster) and enlarge the VBI (longer idle between refreshes) to maximize amount of GtG settlement time in dark between strobe backlight flashes. The faster the GtG and the larger the VBI, the less strobe crosstalk. When it's done automatically in the panel, it's not generally called "large vertical total", but simply internal scanrate conversion that buffers a slow-scanning signal off the cable, and does higher scanrate to the panel. Most 240Hz panels already do this.

On some panels, using large vertical totals make things worse, especially if the panel is already doing it automatically. It's very panel dependant whether custom large vertical totals will improve strobe quality. (It's also funny that some engineers at monitor manufacturers don't exactly understand why large vertical totals decrease strobe crosstalk -- we have been educating quite a few).

Also, all NVIDIA ULMB monitors can generally do it automatically, it's mainly the BenQ/ZOWIE that does it manually.

The XL2540/XL2546/XL2546S series are indeed pretty good for strobed 240Hz TN.

wait so you are saying if i'm strobing at half the refresh rate with 240hz scanrate i'd need the G2G to comply with 240hz and not 120hz?, TIL.

sigh.... XL2546S or wait until view sonic makes a 24.5" inch version it is.....

Sorry I just saw this and wanted to ask questions:

I have an xg2401 - can I just remove the anti glare coating without disassembling it? Do you have any videos on this?

I just googled but it just gave me a video of a guy fully taking monitor apart and spraying stuff into it etc looked scary

xg2401 will most likely have to be disassembled.
I talked about second generation panels 240 tn. They are of the same design. Anti-glare film is not recessed into the frame of the monitor.
