Can someone please explain this because I am confused. A pulsar monitor can do ULMB 2 just like this monitor: https://a.co/d/0hi3ek1d
So, comparing the pulsar and this monitor: https://a.co/d/0hi3ek1d, what is the difference between how they strobe? Just one goes in a circle and the other goes in a row?
I noticed that my eyes bothered me more with the https://a.co/d/0hi3ek1d monitor but not as much as the pulsar (when using gsync+vrr)
I am question all this because then is the pulsar still able to go back to the other blacklight strobing that this monitor does? https://a.co/d/0hi3ek1d when you enable ULMB 2?

Gsync pulsar uses a rolling scan strobe for ULMB 2 AND Gsync pulsar mode (Gsync + backlight strobing) at a 25% duty cycle which is easier on the eyes which causes less stain.pgz wrote: ↑29 Jun 2026, 14:06Can someone please explain this because I am confused. Currently it has the classical global flash backlight strobe (without Gsync) ulmb 2 mode 60 hz that works great but the flicker is noticeable and causes eye strain unless you use very short pulse width (which reduces the brightness but you get more motion clarity with the lower duty cycle). They are introducing a global flash 120 hz mode in the next update that's coming out "soon" that will have less noticeable flicker but it might cause more eye strain than the rolling scan implementation as a result.
Rolling scan implementation looks great but it's not as clear as "global flash" implementation and that might have to do with the fact they only used 10 light zones and won't go below 25% duty cycle AND the response times aren't fast enough according to nvidia.
Global flash implementation at higher refresh rates introduces crosstalk which is why they decided to go with rolling scan instead of global flash above 120 hz.

I would take a clearer image vs slightly more crosstalk , crosstalk top and bottom aren't noticeable as much, in a game

Anecdotally, it goes:

Duty cycle target doesn't impact the eye comfort, but lower is always preferred to eliminate S&H blur as much as possible (as S&H blur can also trigger eye strain in some individuals)
The 25% duty cycle is only true in 75-120Hz range (likely up till 200Hz, but I don't have concrete values) It's variable pulse width depending on the refresh rate.
The only fixed duty cycle option is the 60Hz mode (where you can go <10% duty cycle) and the upcoming 120Hz ULMB2 global flash mode will likely be able to achieve it as well.

Namely, ASUS' ELMB2 is able to achieve ~20% pulse width (best setting) at any of the refresh rates available (610, 600, 500, 360, 240, 120, 100)
This implies that it can achieve a effective motion clarity of:
~0,3333 ms @ 600 Hz (~3000 Hz effective motion clarity)
~0,4 ms @ 500 Hz (~2500 Hz effective motion clarity)
~0,5556 ms @ 360 Hz (~1800 Hz effective motion clarity)
~0,83333 @ 240 Hz (~1200 Hz effective motion clarity)
I'd classify 120 Hz & 100 Hz to be insufficient effective motion clarity to be usable, therefore I'd disregard the existence of the 120/100 Hz modes.
This is achievable on a mighty brightness value of 290cd/m²
Note: This means that, on 600Hz, a 3000px/s UFO would be clear as a static image.
However, the large flaw of the monitor is that it uses a KSF/PFS backlight, which means red fringing can be present to some degree
Pulsar (VRR+PWM) or ULMB2 (PWM only) isn't anywhere near these effective motion clarity values.

The monitor you linked only does Global Flash I believe, not Rolling Strobe like Pulsar.
Only the Acer and Asus Pulsar monitors currently do ULMB2 Global Flash at 60hz (120hz coming soon) so not similar to any mode on the monitor you linked. All the modes pretty much use Rolling Strobe on Pulsar even though it says ULMB2.

Rolling Strobe = the backlight is lit in 10 horizontal sections rolling down 1 section at a time. (screen brightness stays more stable per frame).
A rolling strobe is generally perceived as less flickery than a full-screen global flash because only part of the screen is being illuminated at any instant, although sensitivity varies from person to person. Eye strain and flicker is very subjective. Some people are more sensitive to rolling illumination patterns, while others find them more comfortable than global flashing. There isn't a consensus that one is always better. Whether there is crosstalk or ghosting, for me personally crosstalk gives me eye strain.
I personally find the Pulsar monitor more easy on the eyes to look at in Pulsar mode compared to my 175hz QD OLED, so I just leave it in Pulsar mode for general use, work or browsing too.
I would say this even for the ULMB2 60hz mode, compared to my OLED TV that does BFI at 60hz. It's doing something that's more comfortable for me personally. Long sessions using BFI on OLED my eyes would get tired.

I hope Nvidia will take another look at implementing 240hz Global Flash, if all goes well with 120hz I reckon they may as we will now have parity between all 4 brands with the 60hz and 120hz ULMB2 modes. Looks like the next best step to improving the monitor.

I figured that was the difference of the two but wasn’t completely sure and wanted someone to confirm what I was thinking.

They have updated it to 1.1.8 already, I guess they discovered and corrected some more flaws while testing.
According to nv forum post from 2 days ago it will be released "imminent".
